I've got an idea for a new kind of disk (maybe) that I've told Memorex about, but haven't heard from them yet. I think there should be a way to password protect a floppy disk, be it new drives, new software, new whatever, maybe even an encryption. Feedback?

Sounds smart, though I wouldn't have told memorex. The might steal it!

i doubt that it would take affect.... memorex is just one company and i also doubt that they would make new hard ware for their new software. MAYBE roxio MIGHT do it, but thats a big maybe and a bigger might. anyway, are u talking about a disk or a disc? cuz i know that memorex specializes in discs...
aaaanyway, i think that if ur talkin about disks, then the jump drive (flash mem) has already replaced that through the USB...

Makes no sense to me. You can do that with floppy discs. I did it in sixth grade, I don't remember how to do it though :-/

i think that u would have to store all information on one file though - such as a zip or rar

it has nothing to do with the pysical makeup of the cd or floppy, its all software. why would you have memorex waste your cd space by preloading software on it when it should be optional and you can already get encryption software that was designed to do the same thing?

true... in fact, most CDs that are bought from stores are already protected by a sort of encryption with sub channel data, rather than a password
