View Full Version : How do you interperate "Judas"?

Lady GaGa's new song "Judas" has very biblical lyrics. I have read them over and I can get two meanings from it. It's A) A metaphor for a relationship or B) it's a literal interpenetration that is extremely blasphemous.

I wanted to see what you guys thought about the song. And I do want to keep the conversation just about the song. Try and keep debates about who's right and who's wrong out please. In which case, the thread gets off track and loses it's point.

So, do you like it? Do you like Lady Gaga? How do you feel about the song? What's your interpenetration?

I think that "Judas" is basically a metaphor. I think that she is describing how she knows that the person she loves is bad for her but she can't stop loving him. Judas must be a boyfriend who has betrayed her several times but she still forgives him.

Can you guys pull any other meanings or expand on any?

I think she is using her religion to the extreme here. As you said I think it is a metaphor for a relationship. I think its describing how this boyfriend has done her wrong so many times, has done so many things bad and wrong but despite it she can't help but love him and be pulled away from the Good Boyfriend represented by Jesus. Its like her saying she is pulled towards the sinner than the saint, she can't help it. I think many people can relate to it as well.

Well, I do agree with the likelihood that the lyrics in a sense do mean an abusive boyfriend, and the lighter side is represented by Jesus, but I also have another view.

I feel she's definitely trying to appeal more to her Christian audience here rather than actually trying to write worth-while songs. Maybe that's just me. The fact that she's Christian is irrelevant, and I feel she's going in the entirely wrong direction by doing songs like this. As a neutral, she can be enjoyed by atheists, muslims, hindus, and Christians. I'm not saying she can't as a Christian zealot, but it's far more likely that she'll now be associated with Christianity much more, which isn't a popular step in maintaining pop-icon status. I actually couldn't listen to Judas as I feel it sounds terrible, so I was forced to read the lyrics instead. But apart from this, I do feel she's a good artist and that the majority of her songs are pretty good. I do however feel that now she's been given so much praise, she's going off into this whole "deep, meaningful" binge, where she's now trying to make songs that have great meaning due to being seen as a meaningful song writer, when I believe she's anything but.

^ you really think she wrote this song to appeal to Christians? That's some bullshit. She may be a Christian (she claims to be) but that doesn't mean that she gives a shit about her Christian fans. If anything, this song offended most Christians, and she doesn't give a fuck.

They're all part of the illuminati anyways, which is anti-Christian (especially anti-Catholic) That's why this song was made

Yes, they are from the Illuminati, they are heretical, evil and satanic.

She does Satanic rituals in her musical acts!

Do you seriously believe in the shit Dan Brown writes? Why the fuck do you think the Illuminati is Anti-Christian? Sure, Dan Brown wrote about them attacking the Catholic Church, but that's only fictional. The nearest organization I could think of them, the Freemasonry, don't even express contempt against Catholicism. Also, Her fanbase is interestingly diverse, and that includes Christians too, who, unwittingly do not see anything wrong with her acts. She's an Entertainer, she's supposed to commit unusual plays to satisfy the audience. She may seem Anti-Christian, only because Radical Christians are against her. Hell, the Catholic Church doesn't even have much problems against her; somebody even made a public apology letter to her! (http://blogcritics.org/culture/article/a-christian-apology-to-lady-gaga/)

^ The illuminati are definitely real and they attack the Catholic church. Just look at Lady Gaga's other videos, like Alejandro. Other artists too like Jay Z, Rhianna, and Beyonce. They're all in on it and you can tell by the music they put out

It's as if we all listen to that kind of music.

It makes it all clear to me that you are one delusional little fellow. But, to follow certain guidelines in debating, I shall ask you now, can you prove it? Can you provide any solid, fail-proof evidence that would refute me otherwise?

Oh, and Akon made the single "I just had Sex". Nobody can talk about having sex, especially in music. He should be put into death immediately for undermining non-existent Christian values!

I interpreted it as entertainment. Why does no one else do this? Trying to look for some higher meaning in a music video is just outrageous.
