First off, he may already be doing it - how do you know he isn't? Also ive got twin 11yo bros, they asked me about it and I dealt with it and told them it was normal, everyone does it sooner or later. I know they do it because they told me it was awesome. But I didn't introduce them to it, and don't think you should either

Be subtle.

I don't totally agree with that. I think if you're cool with your dad and you have questions then go ahead. At least you should know you might get more accurate information from an experienced adult. I guess it could be uncomfortable though. My dad isn't around but I've had some pretty personal talks with my cool uncle which have been more helpful than talking to other kids.
