Kevin escapes out the wndow again. No chance to open the second door. I head downstairs. "Hi...Aunt Basila." I say, cautiously. Her black eyes gleam. "What do you want? You haven't been snooping again, have you?" She says coldly. I shake my head. "No, ma'am. Um...is there anything you need me to do?" I ask. She shakes her head. "Go read or something." She says. I go to my little attic room. As I lie on my bed, I stare at the little attic door, wondering...
Blackness.
I awake to the chirp of birds, and a pounding sound. The window. I look outside. It's a sunny day, and Kevin is below my window with a handful of rocks. Basila is gone. I throw down a sheet, and he climbs up through the window. "Ready for today?" He asks, pointing to the little door in the attic. I gulp. "I guess." I say carefully. He takes the key from my nightstand.
He carefully fits the key into the lock, and turns it........
"WHAT DO YOU TWO THINK YOU ARE DOING????" I hear a heavy voice shout. It's Aunt Basila! I scream. Her dark black eyes glow like embers as she glares darkly at Kevin and I. "I'm sorry, Aunt Basila!!!" I scream. I pull the little door open, hold my breath, and jump. It it is dark, I can't see anything, and I hit a concrete floor hard, the wind knocked out of me. Kevin was right. It was a tall array of rafters above a huge empty old house. I run out the front door of the abandoned house, and hear the rainfall as I do. I run. And run. My lungs ache, my legs hurt. But I have to make it. To the black gates. The black gates.
