View Full Version : "Operation Osama" - why our country's screwed.

News of the capture and killing of Osama bin Laden rocked the TV, radio, and internet last night and this morning. Most people thought this was a 'great victory for America' and so-on and so-forth.
But, personally, I think stuff like this is exactly why we, as a country, are doomed.
It took 2 decades (since the initial WTC Bombing in '93) and countless numbers of US Troops to find ONE person, and yet we still have some of the world's most dangerous cities right here in our own country. Just last night, I was putting gas in my car at a station down the street from my home in Philadelphia. When I had paid and came out, there were 5-7 people crowded around my vehicle, looking in the windows and scoping it out. When I walked towards the car, they scattered, but still.
Those people threatened me more in 10 seconds, then some guy hiding out in a cave 2,000 miles away EVER will. But the latter is somehow our country's top priority. And, don't get me wrong, we had to find bin Laden after what he did, no doubt about it. But, I don't believe a mass invasion of Mid-Eastern countries was the best way to go about it. The manpower we used in our 'war on terror' should have been used to fight bank robbers, murderers, rapists and kidnappers that we have living in our own country.
But, hey. Just my opinion.

Complete agree here.
But who cares about efficiency and death tolls...we finally got the guy! WOOO HOOO! Lets celebrate because we're all much safer now. (sarcasm)

I doubt this is it. He was a figurehead. There are plenty of other insane radicals who will command the Taliban and we will just be in deeper S***.

You're right except for the Taliban part. Bin Laden was the religious radical figurehead of Al Qaeda, not the Taliban.
Al Qaeda hates America and desperately try to destroy us.
The Taliban hates America, but they don't go out of their way to destroy us.

Why do we need so many threads on this? I'm already sick of it one day through school.

Yep, our country is screwed. There will be an awful lot of revenge going down here.

I'll agree that there will be major attacks planned on the US, but I estimate very few will actually happen. Things such as airport screening and such are somewhat safer then they were 10 years ago.
I expect a major increase in potential attacks and then for it to die down again to simple attacks from an unorganized Al Qaeda.

My bad. Al Quaeda. I'm wrong all the time. Mostly I mix stuff up.
I do know that there is no good reason for obama not to release the photos of Bin Laden to to the media and to Abbottabad Pakistan, and the rest of the world. No reason.

He doesn't want it to be used as propaganda for Al-Qaeda.

What's more rallying? A picture or just someone speaking to you about his death?

You underestimate bin Laden's fame among extremists and everyday Muslims and pretty much everyone. What's better, pictures of his prosperity or of him with a bullet through his head?

A picture of him with a bullet in his head would make them fight harder since he was their leader. He inherited his prosperity.

Come back and say that again after spending a month in Afghanistan or some middle eastern cesspool.

I can see why people are celebrating because we met a goal, but just outright killing a person I don't understand. He was a dangerous person yes, but I don't think we should be celebrating the fact we killed him. If anything it just draws more attention to the U.S from terrorists.

Ahem, some VTers do live in some "middle eastern cesspool", my dear.
And I am from Balochistan, this comment did offended me, unfortunately. But because I am Faris, I will forgive you, fortunately.

Plus, what pictures are you talking about? I believe I have already posted a link to BBC that confirms that those pictures released by the press are completely fake.
Doesn't matter now, the words of his death is a major news all around the world. Fuck, even Dalai (http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20110504/ts_alt_afp/usattacksbinladendalailamatibet) Lama had something to say about this.

So, celebrating his death was the best childish way to express contempt towards Arabs and Muslims.

So lets add to all the crap going around by not releasing his photo and harboring conspiracy theory.
