Try and use something dry, but not something that will stick like a tissue; as moisture is not the best thing, to have on a wound - especially if its not covered with a dressing.

You want to put it above your heart, apply pressure and hold. After 10 minutes or more check if it's still bleeding. If so apply more pressure. Try Putting a bandaide on it. Warm water is not good, I wouldn't suggest anything moist.

I would recommend highly washing it with salty water - It is perfect for washing cuts/abrasions. DO NOT use alcohol or Peroxide of any kind this slows the process. I also can't stress enough also about putting a dressing on it, and change it daily. If it is serious do exactly what Broken Inside said shes spot on. If its serious, seek medical aid.

Any questions contact me, this is my field :P Im here to help.

That sounds painful o.O My mum has always told me alcohol, as well as everything else people have said, pressure until it stops bleeding, keeping it above the heart. I wouldn't use tissue, and definitely not wet tissue. Clean it with soapy water if needed, then use at the least some paper towel or toilet paper, anything a bit sturdier than facial tissue, but I recommend gauze (I don't know if you have that stuff at your disposal. I was brought up with it always around the house, as my mum used to be a nurse before she went on mental disability with bipolar disorder, so she always has first aid supplies lying around. I do the same now out of habit, I keep a stash of gauze pads in the drawers next to the bed as well as varying sizes of wraps and plasters).

Okay that was very helpful, thank you :)
My mum was also a nurse until she got problems with her back and hip and things like that, so it does help for things lying around lol :)

Never ever, ever, ever use Alcohol or Peroxide on a open wound;

1. Hurts Like Hell
2. Slows down Healing process.
3. Kills Good Cells, which Bacteria feed on - Higher risk of Infection.

Good Job with the Gauze tho, its the ideal stuff - but like you said, most people don't have it laying around the house.

I usually use anti septic wipes. Stops infection as well as cleans up the blood.

I used to disinfect the wound and then bandage it and apply pressure for a lil bit then leave it. Worked most the time.
