There are many different reasons why some people get so upset over breakups. For me I usually am the one that breaks up with the other person because it's less painful in my own opinion. If my boyfriend was to breakup with me right now I would be devastated! Usually people are so hurt because their already vulnerable in the relationship because their showing that significant other a side of them that most people don't see. If you begin to really care about that other person and they end it; it can be pretty painful, you may feel unloved, foolish for dating in the first place and maybe even defeated. So in my opinion people get so upset because they were emotionally invested and the other person broke it off, especially if you have sex with the other person it would be even worse because your giving them a part of you. Hope I helped :)

I reckon that people need to think like physicists:
Eventually all matter in the universe will turn into high-energy photons and any evidence which REMOTELY suggests that ANYONE EVER dated (or existed, for that matter) will be gone.

I think you need to have been in a relationship before you understand why!

Well really. If they throw you aside like trash you should be bitter enough to move on...

Very simple answer. Love. If you love somebody very much and they drop you for some miniskirted slut, wouldn't you be upset? Yeah, people get sad when they are dropped, but they get over it and find somebody better. Good question, though.

Its because if you love someone, you trust them, they are your best friend, you feel like you cant live without them.. and then for that to be taken all away?
Wouldnt you be sad? Its like losing a family memeber.
You may or may not have been in a relationship, but its obvious that it never got deep enough for you to actually feel hurt.. Because it really hurts.

People can get upset over breakups because, for one, it may not have ended in their favour. Another reason is how it ended, words that were said, rumours that were spread, lots of things could cause anger.

I have never been in a relationship, but to be in one, love is needed. What is love? It's a feeling. A good one, that shows the existence of a connection between two people, in this case. Well, if those two people break up, that connection they have builded up will be broken, and in my opinion no one likes that. It's the same way as you having a pet you really like, and it dies. Why wouldn't you get upset? I'm sure you had a connection and it sucks losing it. And I'm not trying to compare the death of a pet to a break up, but it's just so you can picture it.

Ohhhh, this seems personal! :P

Because their hope of falling in love with the person and spending their lives together forever got ruined.

I dont really care when someone breaks up with me cause I dont fall "in love" cause love doesn't exist in high school. So no reason to really care.
Btw thats just my opinion.

Usually breakups are over an strong argument
and the fact that they now don't have anyone to love on
you feel a bit empty

For me, its cus i put my whole heart into a relationship. If you really care about the person, then it can be devastating to sever it. Loves a strong force, and i get the impression you've never experienced it.
