View Full Version : Apple Takes Over The Throne

So now, Apple made more money than Microsoft and is now officially the biggest technology company by having a 4 billion dollar lead.
So, do you think Microsoft will be able to regain it's position back?
For several years now, Microsoft is doing NOTHING. Just sitting on it's fat butt and earning money. We know how were were disappointed when Windows 7 came out and it was nothing special: A lot of people still prefer XP over Win7
Meanwhile, Apple came out with something new every day. From Music stores to touchpad telephones, Apple was the winner at heart.
Though Microsoft is just a software company, while Apple produces both computers, phones and it founded iTunes.
So what do you think will happen next?

Without Microsoft there would be no Apple, vice versa. Bill Gates has bailed Apple out of a jam to help them in the past, why? Because if one or the other takes over there wouldn't be any growth in the market besides Microsoft Office is on Apple computers ;) and pretty much be a monopoly. I'd dig up a deep source on this, I can later if need be, but dude, Apple computers aren't very impressive to me. Yeah, yeah they got some bells and whistles, but as far as what I call "easy to use" is by far an exaggeration of their machines. It won;'t last long for apple. It's a see saw of who's making more, but they both are helping each other out and giving each other a taste of the cut. Whoopie doo.

Yeah I agree without Microsoft there wouldn't be Apple.
Well I will always be a supporter of Microsoft but Apple just seems more attractive every day. I see an Apple Laptop and I am just like "Man, wish I had one".
And well Apple Desktops are also as good as Windows users, they made a computer with 4 cores, which also contains 4 cores in each core. If games were massively produced for Mac too, I'd consider a Mac Desktop.
Aesthetically, people see Apple as a more simple computer but Microsoft will always be the top-software producer and programmers will never turn their back on Microsoft.
But we should admit this: With Apple having it's hand on almost all branches of technology and Microsoft doing almost nothing for years now, Microsoft must take action immediately.

While yes, I do prefer Apple over Microsoft pretty much any day, I have to disagree with you about the release of Windows 7. I was far from disappointed, and when I had to go back to a WinXP machine after my Win7 laptop died, it was utter hell. Reliability can only carry an operating system so far before it begins to look, and feel, its age. And after 10 years, XP isn't exactly young.

Well I was never a fan of Vista because it was very hard to use and it had many bugs and after Win 7 came out I felt so relieved. I also don't get why people prefer XP over Win7, maybe it is because XP is more simple?

More people prefer XP over Windows 7? No, I doubt that. I use XP on my laptop and Windows 7 at school. I definitely like Windows 7

Fuck Apple/Mac and Mircrosoft - What happened to the awesome opensource operating systems? What happened to Ubuntu? What happened to openSolaris? what happened to FreeBSD?
What happened to Sony mediaplayers? What happened to Samsung smartphones? Fuck this shit!
See, this what happens when an Arabs takes control of stuffs, "We want your money!"

But that's where you're wrong. No one really buys A LOT of Apple computers, if you realistically look at the prices of both, of course the Apple looks very attractive but there's a difference. Microsoft has major competing companies that make the computers that are supporting "Windows" aka Samsung, Panasonic, etc.. and they are the ones that come out with better model computers. Microsoft just makes and tightens up the programs. Though to be very honest with you I don't like all their newest editions starting off with Vista +, I've just stuck with my Windows XP because it's been my favorite.
Microsoft will literally always be on top software wise, (if I'm correct) but apple may have the "hardware" of a broader variety.

I much prefer Windows 7. My old desktop had Windows Vista. Blegh. I don't have much to offer, but I think the design is much more pleasing, and I like the additional room for customization.
I think Apple has more products, but I find Microsoft more reliable for some reason. I don't know if I'm the only one or not, but I don't really trust Apple beyond my iPod Touch... I can't recall where that prejudice comes from though. Maybe it's just how quickly my nano died, my husband's crap iPhone, or the iMac G3s I was forced to work on in school. I really hated those computers for some reason...

And loads more, so I disagree.
We know how were were disappointed when Windows 7 came out and it was nothing special: A lot of people still prefer XP over Win7Again, I disagree with this. Windows 7 was a large step from their previous operating systems providing much more stability compared to Vista and better security and functionality compared to XP.
Meanwhile, Apple came out with something new every day. From Music stores to touchpad telephones, Apple was the winner at heart.Hm. Is it really that much of a deal that they do that? I mean think of it, if you accuse Microsoft of being greedy yet they're supposedly lazy at the same time, then what are Apple doing? They're releasing new products"everyday" which results in people cashing out money more often. I see where this is going, don't you?

And well Apple Desktops are also as good as Windows users, they made a computer with 4 cores, which also contains 4 cores in each core. If games were massively produced for Mac too, I'd consider a Mac Desktop.Hm, I'm not really fused by this considering Intel is the top CPU manufacturer in my opinion, and if I recall ARM is probably higher than Intel.. I don't know, I just know Apple CPUs aren't that impressive.
Aesthetically, people see Apple as a more simple computer but Microsoft will always be the top-software producer and programmers will never turn their back on Microsoft.I honestly don't know how though, Window systems just offer way more customisation than Apple systems.
But we should admit this: With Apple having it's hand on almost all branches of technology and Microsoft doing almost nothing for years now, Microsoft must take action immediately.Apple doesn't have every branch, just think of all the technology we have in life, even Sony hasn't touched everything. Plus, I've already explained MS not being lazy so I won't repeat myself.
Well I was never a fan of Vista because it was very hard to use and it had many bugs and after Win 7 came out I felt so relieved. I also don't get why people prefer XP over Win7, maybe it is because XP is more simple?Windows Vista's GUI didn't have much different compared to XP (layout wise) so how you find it hard is beyond me. The only issues I had with Vista when it was first released was memory hogging and incompatible hardware and software, though as time passed these issues were fixed. And I sense a tad contraction there. You previously said Windows 7 was a disappointment, now it's not?! Hehe.

MattVon, several years mean 3-5 years, was Windows 95 founded in 2005? No It was founded in 95, 15 years ago.
I don't say I am an Apple fan and fuck Microsoft, Microsoft is the father of technology. I am just saying that I started to get confused because Apple is always on the media and we don't hear anything from Microsoft. The world waits for the new iPad in excitement.
MattVon obviously you can't separate "Public Opinion" and "Personal Opinion". A lot of PEOPLE think XP is better and Vista + is way too confusing for a regular user while I THINK that Windows 7 is a dream.
And I can't see what is wrong with Apple releasing stuff every day and earning cash for it. They work hard, they come up with good stuff and get paid for it. What do you expect, giving away iPads for a hundred dollars?
Alright, maybe there is no chance that Apple can surpass Microsoft in the computing branch, but when you look around, really all you see is Apple. Microsoft's development isn't as fast as Apple and Microsoft loses money on NASDAQ by day.

MattVon, several years mean 3-5 years, was Windows 95 founded in 2005? No It was founded in 95, 15 years ago. That leaves 8 of 14 major products left on the list I mentioned, Microsoft still aren't lazy.
I don't say I am an Apple fan and fuck Microsoft, Microsoft is the father of technology.I don't think I did? I'm sure you're not, you're just making your point across which is perfectly fine.
I am just saying that I started to get confused because Apple is always on the media and we don't hear anything from Microsoft. The world waits for the new iPad in excitement.I hear all top organisations on the media equally. Both Apple and Microsoft are always on the media either suing people or being sued by people, I believe Apple was the last one to be sued by Sony I think, or some mobile company. Microsoft I last heard was either suing Google or in some dispute against google in the EU, I can't remember. I also heard on IGN that Apple made a loss when they released the iPad 2, compared to the first one, I honestly don't think that device is really impressive to be honest, nice iPod Touch/iPhone is better I say.
MattVon obviously you can't separate "Public Opinion" and "Personal Opinion".I probably can't be seriously...
A lot of PEOPLE think XP is better and Vista + is way too confusing for a regular user while I THINK that Windows 7 is a dream.... How hard is it for the normal user to adapter to a new GUI. All the buttons are in the same or similar place to XP, heck even my parents got used to it and they are horrendous with computers. Though due to Vista hog wars, I'm honestly not surprised people preferred XP over Vista, I even had to downgrade my sisters PC from Vista to XP. Windows 7 though, I honestly see nothing wrong with it. If Windows 7 from XP changed to like Mac or a Linux based distro then I'd understand the issue, but it's all Windows at the end of the day and there's not much difference.
And I can't see what is wrong with Apple releasing stuff every day and earning cash for it. They work hard, they come up with good stuff and get paid for it. What do you expect, giving away iPads for a hundred dollars?Don't call Microsoft greedy then, they make good things for less money and sure on the odd occasion there are mistakes but they fix them. Apple make loads of good things, for 10x what they're worth and people call Microsoft greedy... Something just ain't right to be honest.
Alright, maybe there is no chance that Apple can surpass Microsoft in the computing branch, but when you look around, really all you see is Apple. Microsoft's development isn't as fast as Apple and Microsoft loses money on NASDAQ by day. When I look around I see a lot of junk in my bed room. 1 Apple product, iPod Touch of course. On the market though I'm used to seeing multiple companies scattered everywhere so I find it hard to see Apple amongst everything else due to my interest in other products over Apple. Each to their own though, we all have our own tastes I just know mines not Apple. I also haven't really got any idea was NASDAQ is so I won't bother that.

The NASDAQ Stock Market, also known as the NASDAQ, is an American stock exchange. "NASDAQ" originally stood for "National Association of Securities Dealers Automated Quotations". It is the largest electronic screen-based equity securities trading market in the United States and second-largest by market capitalization in the world. As of January 13, 2011, there are 2,872 listings. The NASDAQ has more trading volume than any other electronic stock exchange in the world.

Actually I go to a school that will be buying 800+ apple Macbook units for distribution to students and teachers as part of a 1:1 initiative for advanced learning. They were chosen over Microsoft for reliability, because they are longer lasting, and because they will serve the school better. I would say that 800 is quite a few.

Understandable, my old high school did the same thing but get this; when you're buying 800 macs you're buying 800 confusing pieces of shit. So granted, but I never used the computers in school. I took everything home to work on from my own PC. I don't waste that much time, I can get the same programs from the MAC on my PC. Just because MAC has final cut pro on their computers doesn't mean that Apple rules the almighty sea. It just means they have a more diverse way of doing things and personally in my opinion; dislike. PC's is what I've been using since I've been able to use a computer and as far as I'm concerned, will use until I can no longer.
EDIT: Reliability isn't a damn thing because you cannot upgrade the MAC, meaning when that shit is obsolete you get a whole new system. I say nay to spending that money twice if not more when I can upgrade on my PC and have years of great reliability on a trustworthy brand and my amazing Windows XP.

Apple's hardware doesn't advance nearly as fast as the actual hardware is released. You see these new iMacs and MacBook Pro's out now that use the latest hardware, but let's not forget that the Mac Mini is still using a Core 2 Duo.
That said, the prices that they put on the mediocre hardware on their older devices is outrageous. The prices on the new iMacs isn't bad, but it won't go down when these machines start to show their age. A week ago, the iMac cost the same as it does now with older hardware. So it's overpriced unless you buy it right out of the gates.
That said, the operating system is trash. Apple has no concept of computer security or user permissions. My Java IDE at school is allowed to prevent my computer *indefinitely* from shutting down, why? The graphics drivers that come with Macs are pure shit. The same hardware on a mac will get 10-15 fps less than a PC with vendor graphics drivers.
All this said, fuck MS Windows all the same. The OS is trash, they have no concept of security management. MS tracks viruses with signatures instead of actually fixing the hole in the operating system. It's Ubuntu all the way.

Seems like I've butted heads with every mod in several different threads in only a few short days. *sigh* I have a thing for out of the box performance. I don't like to initial boot and have to see an ad for spiderman three. (as did I with my sony Vaio) I don't like being junked out with trial software that I will have to clean out. Its like they sell you a PC as a restoration project. I don't like the bad business. Mac Is strait-forward and simple. To say that you learned to use a PC is not an argument at all. It is irrelevant to the quality of the computer.
That all being said, Mac has its flaws (customizability for example) In my opinion the best computer is a Good PC w/o any trace of windows, running a stable, and virus resilient flavor of Linux.
I see we agree on those details. I thought our beef was on MS Windows lol

And i dont care who it is. My point was MAC comes with no Bloatware. They do almost EVERYTHING the right way. And they have yet to apologize for any of their OS's. And like I said. I would rather have a PC with linux. I am arguing that Apple is an good, trustworthy company.

Windows comes with no bloatware either. It's manufacturers who add their pointless software to the mix when they give you your computer.
NO, Anti-Virus applications scan using signatures. GET IT RIGHT, Microsoft patch their shit appropriately and AVs do their shit.
And that could take them a month or two? What do you do in the interlude when the virus is out there and there is no patch yet, you have to check it with signatures. I'll agree that Microsoft patches their shit, but not appropriately. They take months to get a patch out for even serious vulnerabilities, and that is unacceptable.

You have to remember all the shit MS will have to go through to patch what ever the mistake is, I'm no where near good at code, but I could imagine it could take some time, and then to test it to make sure it doesn't cause errors since in the past some of their updates have caused serious BSOD, then all the systems available. There's a lot of variables to be taken into consideration when dealing with patches.

Pretty much exactly this.
Finding security holes is the easy part. Fixing them is a whole other ball game.
First they have to find where, in the trillions of lines of code the hole is, patch it, make sure the patch doesn't fuck anything else up. Then they have to test it. Testing it probably the most time consuming, as they have to make sure that it will work on every type of machine out there. You don't want them to ship a security update that causes 300 million PCs to not be able to access the internet anymore, do you?

I think that while apple may be more "popular" microsoft is still going to do more for me. If i want to modify the software, hardware on an apple computer I cant do shit. With a windows pc with windows installed I can rewrite programs to change how my computer works, modify the hardware, command prompt is my favourite thing ever on windows. Also the only thing I would buy a mac computer for is editing but I can get just as good a products for a pc. Iphone isnt that great a phone for what I want, give me a blackberry anyday, the ipad is a gimmick really, I can use a netbook for all that.

I'm not sure it is a preference for Win XP over Win7, i is just that the average person will not go out n buy it until their current machine "dies" XP is no longer supported and Vista was a complete flop. Many businesses still use XP and that migration will soon start. Win7 is by far the best Microsoft product they have made. Apple makes a good market, but there is a reason they only have approx 5% of the PC market... cost...and compatibility... although with Intel based they are becoming easier and easier... but an Apple and dual boot and get the best of both worlds.

Actually between the end of 2010 and into 2011 apple has gone up t 10.8 % in the pc market also that is one company against every other pc maker in the world. Second just to laugh look at this pie chart of tablet sales hahaha aha

And that is just 2010 apple has already sold over 12 million iPads in 2011 since march compared to their top competitor the xoom which has sold only 120,000

Actually macs are known for being more reliable and work better and having better hardware and are easier to use.It was not so long ago Apple had a hacker on their systems via a fraudulent software. Apple products are no safer than any other piece of software/hardware. As my computing tutor said "If it's got software it's hackable".. I really hate people who think Apple products are "better", as for having better hardware, I don't think so.

Source for the first statement?
Also, who gives a fuck about the tablet market? That has nothing to do with PCs. As time goes on, competition will be introduced, and Apple's lead will weaken.
Apple's goal to stay 'exclusive' and 'elite' won't help them in the long run (http://gigaom.com/apple/iphone-flat-in-u-s-as-android-takes-market-share-lead/). And, over time, their share of the PC market may have grown, but it doesn't mean fucking shit (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Usage_share_of_operating_systems). OS X has been around for over a decade, and it's failed to take even 10% of the global OS market.
And that is just 2010 apple has already sold over 12 million iPads in 2011 since march compared to their top competitor the xoom which has sold only 120,000

Apple as def earned their spot though. The Ipod completely altered portable music, Itunes played a big role is changing the structure of the music industry, the Iphone well its just an Ipod with a phone in it lol but they marketed it greatly while Microsoft just kept getting worse with a bunch of WOMP WOMP products ( the Zune) you see they didnt waster their time making a new one

Unfortuantly i don't think Microsoft will make it back on top
it seems that Microsoft is only 4 steps ahead of the world
while apple is 20
Apple is like the nerd on the playground who asks you a trick question and laughs before you answer knowing that you will answer wrong...

What do I think will happen next? People will continue buying iPods, iPhones and iPads. That's where they make their real money at. Look around a room filled with people. Guaranteed at least 5 have an iPod at the least.
I think Microsoft will stay with what they're decent at and need to stop straying away from that path with things like search engines etc. They should stick to making a decent operating system.

With Steve Ballmer as CEO I really doubt it.
