Well that's lame.
I don't know, I figured they would have it on Easter or something...and the media started talking about it so long ago and they kept making it seems like it would happen soon.

Apparently the American media are more exited about it that us, it was on the news that you guys had been reporting about the wedding for months, we only started a couple weeks ago
But anyway, as patriotic as my family is my family is having a rather spiffing garden party and you must wear a fancy hat to enter, needless to say I shall not be attending. I'll be in the living room.... With the shades shut... Playing Portal.

why would America want to talk about the wedding?? as far as I know its on friday which is today now because of the timing.,, I dont like the way everyone is getting all worked up to celebrate a wedding of two people they will never meet for what I ask?

It's just celebrity news that you'll see on TMZ, but it affects more people (An entire country) rather than those who care about Lohan's latest crime. Which is why it's so hyped.

80% of Britons don't give a shit, yet we're all paying for the £50 million price tag, and we're all going to pay for the four day weekend £5bn dent on the UK economy. It's another way for the media to shove their pro-monarchy bias down our throats, and for the sheeple of the UK and elsewhere to be absorbed by it.

How about the rest of the world? Media Moguls pay large sums of money on something the people don't even care about. I hear a lot of complaints on radio stations for this, apparently. :P

I went down to London yesterday and it was total fucking chaos.
Also, events leading up to the 'big day' have included the pre-crime arrests of known anti-monarchy / anarchist activists such as Charlie Veitch (http://www.presstv.ir/detail/177329.html) to help 'prevent the possibility of someone causing public nuisance.
I thought time had progressed from 1984.

We're still talking about one of the most succinct 'global occasions' I've ever known? Why people obsess themselves with things which, on a global scale, are so mundane is beyond me.

I watched it. I think most people saw at least some of it. I know everyone I was talking to at the time was watching it and we analyzed it to death.
I was quite excited tbh, even if it doesn't affect us directly right now. It will in the future when William is Head of State and Kate is Queen. And it was a nice occasion for the public to get together in celebration rather than something serious and depressing. It really showed the country's patriotism.

No it won't. The only reason we still have a monarchy today is because the public apparently wants one, even though they probably wouldn't if the media didn't keep banging on about how glorious and wonderful they are.
Remember when Diana died and the Queen didn't make a statement until Tony Blair practically threw her out? The public were really angry about that, and if the Queen hadn't gone out there and the public started to hate her, that would have been the end of the monarchy.
The only reason the monarchy still exists is because of the demand for a monarchy, which probably wouldn't exist if it wasn't for the media.
Whether we have a Queen or not, it doesn't matter because they do fuck all, except stand, wave, and make it look like they give a shit about their, "subjects."
I'll admit, I watched a bit of it, but only as a form of revision procrastination, and nothing else was on. But I did find it rather annoying that on Radio 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5, which are all run by the BBC, there was wedding coverage. They're all available everywhere in the country, is it really necessary to have it on every channel?
I might not exactly be a fan of the royal family, but Harry didn't look too shabby. :P

I agree! Devoting our time and money to real issues is so hard! Economics are depressing! Why do we have to think about poor people on the streets and the brown people we kill overseas and what to do about the sick and needy? Let's have a frivolous party instead!
This is exactly what the public needs. A distraction.

Well without the monarchy British tourism would be at an all time low, the amount of revenue that is generated from tourism to the monarchy landmarks is more than enough to cover the public cost to the wedding.
Getting rid of the monarchy would be a bad move in my opinion because there is such a huge market for it.

I watched it, it was so romantic! I think its wonderful, the Monarchs are still the leaders of some of the biggest countries on earth (Canada, India, England, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa) and it is a big boost to moral. Fine if you are not a monarchist, I respect that, but dont bring down something that for a lot of people is a big event. I think Will and Kate are a great couple and great to see some happiness in the world after months of disaster. PLUS Kate is HOT! :P Monarchy was the biggest form of government for hundreds of years, even thousands on Earth, and only in the last 200 years have some countries started to move away from it. I personally see nothing wrong with it, it is a real connection with the past and why change what isnt broken?
Also, how is it different to people getting obsessed with celebrities? The members of the Royal family are celebrities for many people.
I think the fact that 2 billion people watched it from all over the world shows how important the Monarchy still is too many

I would imagine this is more to prove that Kate was truly interested in the Prince and not just in it for the fame, money, status etc. It makes sense in my opinion. Plus I'd imagine it would take a lot to impress royalty for them to believe you were worthy for their son.

I dont think there was anything wrong with them going out for 8 years personaly,, my auntie and uncle went out for 18 before getting maried :) they kinda said if we are strong enough to stay together they didnt need any paper work to prove it. I think people would be a bit more in favor of it if the royal family acctualy did something :)
