Many companies are against Jailbreaking of the electronics you buy. Companies such as Sony reserve the right to "ban" your console because it is jailbroken. Since you pay for these electronics how do you feel about the concept of banning those for hacking things they own? Does it seem right that you have to buy something to merely rent it from a company that forces you into EULAs?

Shouldn't this be in tech junkies place?

Should it? This is more of a debate question. Not just a tech in general.

I think that bricking or disabling devices is wrong, but banning a jailbroken PS3 or 360 from competing online is acceptable, as the company is providing an infrastructure, and also has to worry about hacking and cheating.

You're not a moderator, should you be commenting on where threads are supposed to be? No, you shouldn't.

Besides which, the OP posted a debatable question; the fact that it's tech-related doesn't mean it needs to go in there.

This is quite reasonable, if you want to jailbreak a device then they just take you off the network. The downside is I thought with the PS3 you basically have to be connected to the network for most games?*Not sure, I do not own a PS3*

You always were a grumpy mod. =_=

Thinks such as phones, and mp3 players, I see no harm in Jailbreaking. PS3's and 360's being Jailbroken make it easier to cheat and hack, and let's face it, that's not good. >-<

What actions do you suggest the gaming companies take then? Since phones and Mp3 players being jailbroken can also have bad consequences, such as applications being pirated.

No, but in Apple, if it is jailbroke the warranty is shot. So it is a risk you have to take.

True, warranties get voided. Warranties aren't much use anyway ;)

I still wonder how apple tells if a device has been jailbroken.

The same way they can check you out with a cash register the size of an iPhone. They have their ways.

You should be able to modify your own product.
