So, the president has now provided the long form of his birth certificate. Do you think the birthers (Donald Trump) will finally shut up?
Also, what do you think?
Here is a link to the white house

I've never been a part of the "birther" movement for the simple fact that its like arguing who left the stove on when the house burnt down, as well as the fact of the sheer stupidity of those in the "birther" movement. I've never liked Obama, but I found this whole birth certificate controversy ridiculous. I'm a proud Republican, but even I thought this whole stupid controversy about his birth certificate was blown out of proportion.

So the people who believe this is fake are really saying that the Justice Department (under the Bush administration, I might add) let this guy run for President without checking his credentials first? Hmm, funny that.

Gotta love some members of the GOP. They certainly don't let facts get in the way of their so-called arguments. This document would have been released sooner but it was accidentally left somewhere along with Iraq's WMDs.

Obama released it, now hopefully the "birther" whackos like Donald Trump can move on with their lives.

Let's face it. Nobody is going to be able to lead this country efficiently. All of our problems are caused from both parties, and we are in such a mess that no one party can fix things. Both parties have negative and positive areas. Both have strengths and weaknesses. The truth is, nobody does what they say they are going to do no matter what camp they are from.

No, Obama finally gave in and did what a sizable portion of the country has been demanding for years. I'm impressed that Trump finally got him to do it.

but I guess otherwise it'll shut him up.

It'll shut him up yes, but the president should have done it the first time right away when people asked for it. Why? To keep contraversy from happening. It was completely unnecessary for him to take this long to show a piece of paper.

It was only a controversy in the sense that a very vocal minority were all "herp a derp Obama ain't a real president because he wasn't born in America flerp derp"

Despite all the proof that existed before this latest piece of evidence got released.

Trump didn't ask for the certificate. He said it was missing
Obama did this because it's a waist of time to say that he isn't an American.
And it didn't take some fake investigators of Trump's to find that out because Obama already proved he was born in America.

Trump is an terrible human. Nothing is good enough
Now, he is denying that Obama should have gone to harvord.
This is no longer a joke, it is racal. He thinks he can take down Obama. He can not, he thinks he can tear us apart as a nation. And you know what? People will believe his bullshit that he is spreading around, because they can not think for themselves.
This has gotten despicable. In 1899 a black man could not walk down the street without some sort of ID. Now, in the 21'st century the president of the united states , a man who was elected by the people is being told by people to present his birth certificate. The leader of the free world is being called a foreigner. This shit is pathetic. Just because some super right wing groups and people are spreading a rumor. What dose this say about America? That not even our leader is above being called a cheater and untrue. We have had to pout up with this honkey tonk rumor for to long and the people will have none of it. Donald trump is pathetic.

Can we stop with the reductio ad absurdum? Anything can be taken too far, it doesn't make the initial premise wrong.

Hardly. I'm simply saying Obama was equally stupid not to release this birth certificate earlier, and that the fact that he could, but instead allowed the controversy to rage detracts from his quality as a president.

He released it more than two years ago. That one just wasn't "good enough" for all the mentally handicapped people that still think he wasn't born in America.

This latest release won't do anything to quell the birthers. Anyone who could be convinced, was convinced when the first form was released and the birth announcement was pointed out in the Hawaiian newspaper.

Because as anyone who has ever dealt with a conspiracy theorist knows, evidence doesn't stop their delusions. Conspiracy theories exist in spite of evidence to the contrary, not absent it, in most cases. Here, as with any other conspiracy theory, the nutjob echo chamber is already creating reasons that this is a fake. They've already decided their opinion and releasing documents won't change it. I think Obama should have not bothered, because nutjobs don't deserve to have their delusions catered to.

Also because any candidate who actually talks about it like it's an issue is a joke, and it would be nice to see various Republicans shoot themselves in the foot by mentioning it publicly and thereby looking stupid (though stupidity has never seemed to disqualify people from office in America).

The stark reality is that every conspiracy theory revolving around Obama is based on racism and nothing else. The people who start these conspiracies have a word for Obama. They know it, they love it, they can't use it, so they come up with all these new words that give the same idea of him being a completely different person. Socialist, Communist, Anti-colonialist (I thought that was a good thing), Urban, Extremely Urban, Muslim, Kenyan, African, Tribesman, Nazi, they all mean the same thing. Nazi is their favorite because it has two letters in common.

And the idea that Trump could get as high up in the polls as he has is a simple demonstration of how racist the Republican Party is. He clearly has no intention of running for the presidency, because he has absolutely no chance of winning, because he's alienated every single non-Republican or conservative. That's also why no other republican has said anything definitive on the birth certificate issue, because if they say he's from here, they can't win the nomination and if they say he's not, they can't win the presidency.

And to answer the question, the birth certificate question may go away, but there will always be conspiracy theories revolving around Obama. I was reading the news the other day - the woman who led the birthers at first already has a new conspiracy theory - he has many different social security numbers. It's unfortunate, but there are way too many Americans who are, for lack of a nicer word, bigoted brain-dead batshits. Most Americans arent, but too many are.

Those are both certification of live birth which is not considered an original birth certificate, and can be issued to those born outside the US (http://www.americanthinker.com/blog/2011/04/important_difference_between_a.html)

Fine, it wasn't a "birth certificate". The birth announcement in the Hawaiian newspaper plus what he released should be good enough to quell any doubts. That doesn't change that pushing the issue is just an excuse for racism. If it wasn't people would have been puching WAY WAY harder for McCain's certificate. Mainly because he wasn't born in America proper.

The newspapers get their information from the department of health, and could have been reporting based on the certification, which can be issued to no natural born citizens.

Will it shut Trump up? It's hard to tell. He's not a bad guy for thinking 'it didn't exist', half of America has been wondering that for the last few years. I don't think that it makes Obama less of a person for releasing it, it's gotten people to shut up about something that's already been proven before. Do you really think that they would have allowed him to take over the presidency without proving it back in 2008? It's standard for any job you'll ever get to prove your identity before you are hired. Did it seem a little sketch since he was born in Hawaii and his father is an African man? Yes, but he is who he is.

This whole birth certificate thing is ludicrous, it's taken attention away from things that really matter. If people would just use some common sense, they'd know that people have to prove their identity before they are given any job.
