Six days after a security breach of its PlayStation Network, Sony said Tuesday that the incursion was much worse than expected and hackers had obtained personal information on 70 million subscribers.

The company, in a blog entry posted Tuesday afternoon, added it is still unsure if the intruder also obtained credit card data for members who have that on file with the service, which provides online functionality for the PlayStation 3.

"Although we are still investigating the details of this incident, we believe that an unauthorized person has obtained the following information that you provided: name, address (city, state, zip), country, email address, birthdate, PlayStation Network/Qriocity password and login, and handle/PSN online ID," wrote Patrick Seybold, senior director of corporate communications for Sony Computer Entertainment America. "It is also possible that your profile data, including purchase history and billing address ... and your PlayStation Network/Qriocity password security answers may have been obtained. ... While there is no evidence at this time that credit card data was taken, we cannot rule out the possibility."

I don't know if this has been posted or not, but this is real fucked up. I advise all of yall to hide yo wife change your shit. I'm glad I didn't have heaps of info on my PS3. I have old ass games on it from release so I don't have much to worry about, but if you do, check this source out guys.

I have a first gen 80G BUT I don't have all that info hopped onto the system. I wouldn't do that shit to any system. Some may say xbox won the "system war" but srsly lol it didn't. Not by a long shot and I have both systems. I am still very ashamed of my xbox right now, but as for the playstation network there has to be some kind of beef with someone for them to do this. This is huge.

I'm just pissed at sony for only telling us now. The network has been down for several days, and they only told us it was hackers now. I'm just glad i dont have any credit card info on my console.

Then you might want to definitely consider calling a credit union listen above and putting the on "high alert" so nothing can happen.. This is definitely going to effect Playstation's sales, but they're just lucky it wasn't around Christmas, but nonetheless this is beyond fucked up, hopefully someway the people that get the heavy end of the issues are compensated. I doubt it will be up next week.

The servers are hacked for days now and Sony said that the PSN would be reopened TODAY!

I told this to my friend and he told me that it is impossible because they are re-writing the entire system.

They never released a date that it would be back?

Sigh. Well, Time to go put your credit cards on high alert and make sure your money isn't gone. This is really sad Sony. Should have been a little bit more security conscious.

I'm taking a wild guess and saying these rogue hackers waited for Anon to get in and display the vulnerabilities. Then they came in and ripped into it.

I saw it on a youtube comment which lead to a gaming website. But yeah well after this it was probably fake or Sony is really in deep shit now.

*Doesnt play games and doesnt give a shit*

Must be hard for Sony though. :/

They said it was hackers like 3 days ago. 4chan's Anonymous have been taking credit but I doubt it was them.

@I love charlie.
4Chan's Anon denied any affiliation with this part of the attack. They began their attack, but ceased once they realized it was hurting the players they were trying to defend. :)

And this, my friend, is why I hate hacking. I have yet to see it be useful to society.

The original hackers were Phone Phreaks. Hacking by general definition is using something in a way that it is not the intended purpose.
Without hacking we truly would not have innovation.

Watch someone from there be responsible. And this does suck, even though I don't have a PS3

4chan has nothing to do with this attack. /b/ games almost as much as /v/, they have no reason to screw with PSN. They've denied involvement in any case.

Maybe if you would care to read the official PlayStation blog concerning everything about PSN/Qriocity, you'd know better.

I read online today that they are going to have to spend 32 billion dollars to reset the 70 million users profile. They said it will cost about 300-320 dollars for each profile. Ouch

Sony Plans PSN Restart by May 31st

Nearly three weeks after pulling the plug on the PlayStation Network (http://www.gamespot.com/news/6309508/psn-outages-could-last-for-days), Sony says it plans to have its online systems fully back online by May 31. Tokyo-based spokesman Shigenori Yoshida told Bloomberg (http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2011-05-09/sony-s-playstation-qriocity-services-remain-shut-uncertain-on-restart.html) that Sony is in the process of improving its security system and aims to have the service fully restored by the end of the month.

It's back up for PS3 users (who have to update the firmware for their system). If it's up for us, it'll be up for you PSP users soon I'm sure.
