The idea of using a sock kind of disgusts me so its not something I will ever do. However its quite common, probably more so in america than here in the uk where we tend to stick to tissues more, so if it works for you that's all that matters.

I use a sock when I'm in bed and I have the covers over me. Doesn't require clean up and I can just tuck it into my underwear when I'm done and go to sleep.
