A Buffalo man got the fright of his life when federal agents burst into his house and accused him of downloading thousands of images of child pornography. But he was innocent -- the victim of a stolen Wi-Fi signal. Now his neighbor stands accused of the crime.

According to a report in The Huffington Post, the man, whose name was not revealed, and his wife were woken up early one morning in March by the sound of someone breaking into their house. There were seven armed agents from the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency at the foot of the stairs.

"They are screaming at him, 'Get down! Get down on the ground!' He's saying, 'Who are you? Who are you?'" the man's lawyer, Barry Covert said.

"One of the agents runs up and basically throws him down the stairs, and he's got the cuts and bruises to show for it," said Covert.

Then came the accusations. "'We know who you are! You downloaded thousands of images at 11:30 last night,'" Covert said the agents yelled. When the man denied it, Covert said the agents told him, "'You're a creep ... just admit it.'"

Agents then spent the next two hours searching the man's computer, which they eventually took with them, along with his and his wife's iPads and iPhones.

Three days later, investigators determined the man was telling the truth -- he didn't download anything illegal. He later got an apology from U.S. Attorney William Hochul and Immigration and Customs Enforcement Special Agent in Charge Lev Kubiak. Covert said the man is not planning a lawsuit.

But someone downloaded child porn, and a further investigation of the IP address led agents to a neighbor. John Luchetti, 25, was arrested. He has pleaded not guilty to distribution of child pornography.

Luchetti, however, is not charged with using his neighbor's Wi-Fi without permission. Whether that is illegal is questionable.

But it is a good lesson for all of us to make sure our Wi-Fi signals are secure. It takes a few extra steps, but it is clearly worth it.

And we are apparently a nation of thieves. A poll conducted for the Wi-Fi Alliance, found that 32% of people admitted to trying to access a Wi-Fi network that wasn't theirs.

Absolutely ridiculous, an enormous waste of time and money.

Fuck the government, there are more important issues to crack down on.

How is child porn not something the government should not crack down on? What should the government crack down on?

Things that actually threaten national security, not a bunch of pedophiles downloading a few gigabytes of disgusting pictures.

The pictures are more than just disgusting. They are depictions of real children being actually abused. Cracking down on those who download the pictures can lead to the people who are creating it and can lead to such people being brought to justice.

I didn't know you needed assault rifles and bullet proof vests to arrest people who download child pornography. I guess they're so dangerous.

That's what I was thinking. Seriously? That's just overkill.

That's what you think they are. Pedophiles are unpredictable. They are trained in the arts of subterfuge and cyber-stalking in the darkest of basements. They have spent at least 30 years in perfecting their techniques, almost comparable to a real ninja. If you think they are just smelly middle-aged perverts satiating their pleasure with obscene pictures of young girls, think again. One might be already behind you now, waiting a chance to shove deadly force down your orifice.

Most child porn is circulated through underground networks and peer-to-peer downloads. It's extremely difficult to track down the producers of child porn. Obviously, they've taken precautions.

The FBI should be finding the people making it and taking down the dark networks that host it, instead of arresting innocent people.

You sound like a government propaganda poster.

Sadly Commander the government can't take down darknets, or really much of anything on the internet. I do think the government should have been a little bit more cautious before bursting into an innocent man's house and throwing him down the steps. Just saying.

Honestly, I've come across Child Pornography several times, from being on different image boards, it gets reported and deleted off the site. Honestly, I don't think the government should have in such a rash way, but I'm fully fine with the man being arrested, they were in full range of rights to do so. Being as they are trained government officials, they should be able to retain themselves a little better. I do not support Child Porn, and I think it's horrible, but I'd rather have someone looking at it, then doing it.
