Why? Are androids bad?

They're not exactly 'bad', but they're /heavily/ under-supported.
When you buy an Andriod device, the condition you buy it in, will pretty much be the condition it stays in. You may get 1, maybe 2, updates if you're lucky. Also, seeing as it's an 'open' smartphone platform, the 'look & feel' of Android will vary wildly from device to device.
Compare this to something like the iPhone, or Windows Phone. If you buy one of those smartphones, you'll both get a consistant experience from device to device, and you're sure to get updates so long as your hardware can run the updates.

I'll have to agree with someone about the Android not getting much support. Since the release of my Mytouch 3g I have gotten one update. Froyo.
As much as I hate Apple...and I really HATE Apple, I'd say go for the iPhone 4.

Mytouch 3g is the HTC magic(I believe)

I have a droid, my contract is up in the fall and I'll just be updating to the newest one.

Depends what Android phones you get, some phones allow you to flash them with custom ROMS and stuff, have a look on XDA-developers.com to see if your phone is able to support custom firmwares etc.

I'm thinking of buying a HTC Desire HD soon which you can put custom ROMs on and stuff :)

And @OP Out of the two id say the iPhone, not so keen on the torch i think it looks abit clunky.

Honestly, I'd say get a iPhone or Android. Blackberrys(Blackberries?) are not something that are very good for fun. They are a bit more professional, and are better for people like me, who want to check a few sites, check the email and get off the phone. iPhone and Androids will have a lot of apps and games to play.

I would say either the Thunderbolt or the I phone,,,, now rummors have it the new Iphone 5 is comming out this summer. Just get something with the dual camers so you can skype and video chat, I would not buy a windows phone, I just dont like them. Go to best buy they well help up out alot, and ask you what you want yoour phone to do and help you pick the right one and the right plan. AND you dont get the pressure of having to buy an Iphone from APPLE or ATT. We went to a Best Buy phone center in Feb and they were awesome helping us, and we saved a lot of money... plus they have that cool buy back in case you get one, but then decided you would raither have something else....

I have the Samsung Epic 4G, and I love it. The interface is so clear, and I learned it quickly. Screen resolution is great, camera is great. Simple, but fast.

I personally like the android platform it uses. It's a little bit less complicated than the HTC.

I can't understand you people's obsessions with fancy phones.

Seriously ALL PHONES can make calls and send text messages. ALLRIGHT you also need a good camera maybe but that is fucking it!

You obviously don't understand Americans and their need to be able to do everything everywhere. ;)

Actually, i really need to be able to have email, calendar, and my documents on the go. My iPhone does all of that, and constanly sync's it all with my computer no matter where I am.
