According to the Sony Blog (blog.us.playstation.com), the shut down all PSN servers on Wednesday night due to an external intrusion, and will not turn them back on until they have fixed the problem. It doesn't bother me too much though, it gave me a reason to start the Uncharted 2 campaign again, which is great.

Anonymous hacked it and now they're trying to get it back up and running. I'm not surprised that it isn't back up yet, considering something like this obviously takes a long time. I'm sure it'll be up by next week.

Well Anon said they didn't hack it. Not that I'm backing them up, just sayin'. But yeah, they really should have at least some access back up by now.

But that's the thing though. Would you really expect someone (a group or a single individual) to hack a huge network like PSN? From what's been going around, Anonymous encouraged the attack, but backed out from doing anything.

Double post I know, but an important bump. Just posted on the PlayStation blog.
"We sincerely regret that PlayStation Network and Qriocity services have been suspended, and we are working around the clock to bring them both back online. Our efforts to resolve this matter involve re-building our system to further strengthen our network infrastructure. Though this task is time-consuming, we decided it was worth the time necessary to provide the system with additional security.
We thank you for your patience to date and ask for a little more while we move towards completion of this project. We will continue to give you updates as they become available."

I hate how damn vague they are. Just give us a timeline. It ccant be that hard to figure out how long it'll take to rebuild.

I'm sure it'll be up by next week.As another user said, Anonymous denied what is happening now is involved with them. They have also no reason to lie about this either, they're proud of taking things down like they have done in the past. Something like this would make them proud to brag about.

Now if they had made a few back ups of the network, it wouldn't take them so long. I suspect that the network will be back by this week. If not, then maybe the first week of May. It all depends on how fast their workers are.

True, Anonymous obviously would have been proud about this happening. But their attacks recently have been directly towards Westboro Baptist Church since November. Still, it wouldn't surprise me if at least some of them participated.
