A few weeks ago a staff member, Bobby, came up with the idea of having a members assembly. It would be where a group of members, not staff, would have their own forum, where they would come up with ideas that are good for the site, suggestions members want problems sorted etc.

It would be kind of like a focus group. Now its only an idea and like all good ideas could go one of two directions. I am all for trying out new ideas to see if they work. Now what I want to see what everyone else thinks.
Would there be people commited to being part of it? Ideas on how you think it should work?

Well we wouldn't be 100% sure on how it would work as well, still need to work out the fine details. But just want to see what peoples opinions on it were.

I think it would be good, Will and I have a project we would like to present in a few weeks and it would be the perfect forum to present it in. I will not disclose any further information as circumstances may change and/or cancel said project.

How about addressing some site issues and the members can work together to fix the problem or how to make it better? No site is perfect and they can figure out things VT needs more improvement on. I can name a few and others can pitch in and decide on what to do about it.

Ok kewl to see that we have some interest in it. So we can at least give it a test run to see where it goes.

Since its a members assembly the members will need to be choosen by the members, so it would need about 5 or 6 members. So volunteers...

Oh thank you for posting this Alex...I'm flattered by the positvve feed-back.

Ok.
So the group will have it's forum. It will be a private forum, only viewable by the staff, and members of the group. The group can discuss it in a new thread, a chat (a log of the conversation would be good), or on MSN, AIM, etc.

Thier will be a group leader, chosen by the group, based on who volunteers. When the group decides on an idea to present to the staff, they will make a sticky in their forum titled " Final Idea For Jan.15.07" or what everthe date is, and descirbe the idea.

The only thread staff can post in are the "Final Idea" threads. Then if the staff decides they like the idea, they will maybe implement it, or take to to the suggestions forum. If the idea is turned down, then oh well.

Any questions, concerns?

I like it and think its pretty cool!! I was thinking about the same thing, but I just couldn't think how my idea could be done... anyways I think thats perfect!! Even tho, I wouldn't say ONLY 5 or 6 members... I think that those 5 or 6 members that volunteered and chosen by the admins could have the possibility to pick more people (by votation) and add them to the group... for instance lets say that the 5 members of the group are:
Carol
Anthony
Tegan
Jess
Brody (just to name the people that come to my head)
Lets say that these people are chosen by the admins, and someone thinks about adding me to the group, and so they vote... and so lets say the votation wins, and, if I accept the invitation, I get added to the group. I think this could be an idea to not only have a small group of people with a few ideas... I'm not saying that they whole site needs to be part of the group, but the people that the group think would help.

Other than that I think you have the whole thing pretty darn well planned!! :)

If I have anything else to say, I'll say it ;)

Membership to the group is based on staff judgement.
If someone isn't cooportating, or they're behaving badly, they will be removed from the group.

If someone wants to be added they can apply. We're not going to suggest members, then have them except. Again acception is going to be a judgement call.

I really like that idea of having say staff choose the first few members and then those members choosing the rest. After all it is a members assembly.

Also I think this idea would work better if it has as little staff involvement as possible, as in Mods not having acess to the forum, with the exception of Admins and GMods. Then when the group have an idea they want to propose they can move it the Mod Forum.
