Simple question really, if there was no such thing as music, what would you do? :)

Kaius

I wouldn't be here, simple as that. Music has been there when people have failed to be.

Same here actually. When I listen to music I pretty much forget about everything and it's somewhat like all of my problems just disappear.

Music is simply a label we apply to certain soundwaves. With no music, there'd be no soundwaves, and this causes a lot of nasty problems than a physicist would be able to elaborate on better than myself. I'd probably not exist in such a universe.

Well, considering the fact that music is the only thing that's keeping me stable, if it was taken from me I'd probably go on a large killing spree involving decapitating little girls and performing necrophilia on senior citizens.

Probably blow my brains out to be perfectly honest. Music sooths the soul and can extract emotions out of you that nothing else can.

I don't even listen that much. So, fuck it, I'll find something else sooner or later.

I highly doubt there would have been any way that we wouldn't have music. Music has been around for thousands of years. Not in the same form as we have it now, but there has always been beats, series of noises, vocalizing, then instruments coming later.

If all music as we knew it ceased to exist, I would pull out a rock, drum on it, and sing.

If music never existed, I would never have known about it in the first place, so I wouldn't be missing anything.

I go most of my day without music, so if it were taken away from me, I could get by for a while.

Justin brought up a nice point

The magic keyword: deafness

I don't see deafs killing themselves.

Consider this scenario: One day you are out, you had an accident, and later it turns out you can't hear anything; you have become deaf. Wow.

Now, what will you do? Suicide, because you can't hear to the shitty music you've been listening to, or just live on and live your life to the fullest?

You could always listen to John Cage's 4'33" if you're deaf or Songs For The Deaf by Queens of The Stone Age.

But no joking, I don't know how I would cooperate without my music if I just went deaf or weren't aloud to listen to music anymore for some strange reason. My obsession with it is extreme and I've put too much of myself looking into it for me to just let it all go. I know allot of people say music is there life and probably could live without it, but seriously, I breath eat sleep dream music. Sounds are always on my mind. I'm pretty sure the reason I went completely batshit insane a few years ago in the hospital was because I couldn't listen to any of my music but some stupid ass radio station for thirty minutes during rec time.

Not saying that because music being my life is a good thing though. It ruins social interaction and any time someone wants to talk to me about music or even brings it up I turn the conversation into a complete warzone. I really can't control that. It's also aggrivating that I always feel the need to stay up late just to listen to a few more albums, like I'm doing RIGHT NOW. I'm not going to attempt to sleep until I'm finished with the rest of Damien Jurado's albums; which is about five more I think. So my appetite for music isn't really healthy.

Could have been worse. You could have been a 90s kid desperate to fit in, heading right into Britney Spears, N Sync, and Backstreet Boys *shudders* I wish I was more exposed at that age... but I still turned out fine at least...

I wouldn't know. I sorta think music exist all around us as untamed sounds, so I would find it hard to bear without it. :)

Dying seems melodramatic.
But in theory I might end up dead because music calms me when nothing else can. If I didn't have music I'd be a lot worse off, so I might be dead. It's not unrealistic.

I would probably be in a worse mood much of the time because music is good for putting you in a good mood when you're stressed or angry

This basically.

When I'm not going through a period of listening to music, I'm indulging in some other brainless activity instead.

Be really fucking bored, question the point of having ears. Music is my biggest form of entertainment and I really hate being bored. I'd get over it eventually, but finding bands to listen to is just too fun.

that's like talking about a completely different reality....a world without music would be so weird... I'd say I wouldn't be me and that it would be completely weird...but if music never existed I wouldn't have prior knowledge of it..so I guess there wouldn't be anything to in fact miss...life would go on.

Music will always be there. You can't forget it. Even if you go deaf, the sounds will still be in your memories. You can still hear the notes and hum to your heart's content, whether you know what you're humming or not. Music isn't just sound. It's part of your life :).
