I think I have depression. I've looked at the symptoms, and I have experienced everything except one or two things. Is there a way I could deal with this on my own? I don't want to tell a professional my parents, or anybody else, because I don't want them to see me as a girl who always has to have conflict, and drama in her life. Maybe when I'm legally an adult, I'll get help, but I don't want any help right now because then, my parents will have to deal with it too.

Also, can depression be passed on by a parent to a child?

And if I don't get help, will it effect me badly? Sounds stupid....but if I can treat it on my own, I hope it wont effect me..

Well, I don't know if you can deal with it on your own. But isolation in matters like this, encourages depression. Talking about problems is how you get them into the open. And like they say, a problem shared is a problem halved. Maybe you don't want people in authority to know. But maybe a school counselor might be the solution. But keeping this things inside, just you, is the worst thing you can do frankly. So please, talk to someone.

It is really difficult to deal with it by yourself because of the need for therapy and the medicines, it is a probability because some illness can be passed from generation to generation

(I hear this from my personal development teacher a lot)
If you ask for an appointment at the doctors, they do not have to tell your parents. In fact if you see a doctor, they cannot give out any details such as your name. It is pretty much 100% confidentiality between you and the doctor, and if they break that than I think it is pretty much against the law.

^ This is true.

It is possible you have depression but none of us here can diagnose you. If you have had many of the symptoms it may be worth asking for help and as Jai said above, you can do this without your parents finding out.

Depression can have genetic risk factors yes, so it can be passed on from parent to child.
