I hate people knowing I self harm, they never understand it, so i've trying to be thinking of reasons (Minus the typical 'My Cat Hates Me') to help other people too, and I got a few;

Foot/Ankle = I ran through some thistles.
Lower Leg = ?
Upper Leg / Thigh = ?
Hips = ?
Stomach = ?
Chest = ?
Back = ?
Neck = ?
Upper Arm = ?
Lower Arm = Some glass fell down when I opened the cupboard and sliced my arm.
Hands = Cut hand whilst trying to cut food.

Can anyone think of some original reasons for those places where people cut?

Hun, it doesnt matter where people cut. It's about the pain and what you are trying to get out of self harming. No matter where you cut, it will still bleed, scab, heal, and scar. It doesn't even concern other people how it happened. Thats your buisness and you dont need to make up reasons to hide it, be yourself and if someone asks you "how did that happen" tell them its none of their buisness.

You cant "make" people understand self harming, they choose weither they want to hear you out or not.

'tis not about that. Some people accidently see the cuts and you don't want them to know. If you tell them it's 'none of there business', people find out easily, they're still clever for sakes! I've been there. And it's best for these people not to know. No, they really don't understand, my friends listen to me, but they never understand why I do it.

I don't condone hiding it, and you should probably seek counselling? If you're not already.

But I tell people they're shaving cuts if they're on my legs. Its a good excuse no-one really questions it.

I say that I fell over. Or that I cut myself on glass on account of being a muppet.

Person - "Where did you get all those scars from?"

You - "oh long story....my mate *lisa* had a party ages back everyone there got so drunk was unbelieveable. Oh it was soo funny! I found a hedgehog in the garden when we were having a bonfire & well lets say it doesnt like affection. Im never hugging a hedgehog again!!"

Make sure its really dramatic & at end shake your head & say "im never getting that drunk again might get my head eaten by a goat next"

For my arms, I used that I was playing with my brother and the ball we were tossing fell into some thorn bushes, so I reached in not knowing... everyone believed it XD

But yeah, nicking yourself shaving could work for your legs and even your ankles (you go down a little too far, and nick the skin there. I never fail to do that if that happens.

Neck: Say you were wearing a tight chain necklace to bed, and it end up digging into your neck. That has actually happened to me, but I don't cut on my neck either...

Chest: I don't know about guys, but you could say that the underwire in your bra broke through the cloth? It can be pretty sharp in some bras, and that usually happens when I have some really old bras that start wearing out.

Do you wear corsets?... yeah, probably not. But that's a good one too. When I dress up, I wear them, and if you are wearing the cheaper ones they can leave some marks when you take them off, depending on how tight you lace it. As well, if it's the cheaper ones, I've had the boning in those wear through as well, so it could work just like the bra underwire excuse.

But don't cut out the cat suggestion. I use that one, and since I actually have cats, a lot of my actual scratches on my arms, hands, and stomach are caused by them, but not because they hate me. My cat likes to knead my stomach, and sometimes when I'm handling him he'll catch my arm. Then when I'm playing with him, he just mangles my hands XD
