View Full Version : Why is the amount of post you have to get before the ability to send PM's so high?

and the same for profile messages....i mean...i can see why theres limits....but i think 100 post is a little bit high...especially since i prefer talking one on one rather than group discussions....granted im not REALLY trying to change anything,im just curious....

It is to prevent members from camming/swapping explicit material.

Because it's not hard for some people to reach 100 posts within a few days, and VMs are there for you in the meantime.

I think its a good thing, imagine the havoc staff would have if there wasnt a limit for pm'ing it would put alot of work for the admins, and all the rules would be broken to a select few who dont come here for VT's purpose. In my opinion the pm post limit helps everyone. So stop complaining about it

I get 100 posts around every week, maybe a bit longer. It's not that much if you apply yourself.

They get asked this question a lot that's why they are all frustrated. If you have a question, you can Pm a moderator or an admin. You don't need 100 posts to talk to them.

People just need to accept that there are limits. The limits are there for a good reason. Stop complaining about it, I have been averaging about 150 posts a week since I became mod. Its not that hard to rack up.

I don't think he's complaining. He's asking a question, and is going about it in a decent manner. You don't have to be rude.
Not only that, but not everyone wants to "rack up" posts. And it is difficult for some, because it can be hard to thrust yourself into a community. For some, it's easier to just talk to someone, rather than just posting "Hey, I need help."
Now, I'm not saying the limit is unreasonable, but not everyone is here to break the rules. It's possible for it to be a genuine inconvenience, for someone with a genuine problem.

1) As a mod, it's easier to rack up posts. Much easier. Every time you lock or move a thread, it's a new post.
2) He wasn't complaining, he was asking. He's said he accepts the limits, he's just asking why they're so high.
3) It's the responsibility of all members, but especially the responsibility of mods to be kind and courteous to new member, something you would do well to remember.

I wasn't specifically saying that he was complaining. It has been explained in many threads what the reason behind the post counts is, its just in general, yet they still ask the question. Moderating VM's is alot of work sometimes, so just imagine what people would do if they could they could pm from the start.
When I joined, I made about 100 posts in the first week or two, I found stuff I was interested in, I posted. There is an area for everyone here, you just need to look around abit. 100 posts isnt that much if you want to send pm's that badly, and if you run into any issues, you can pm a staff member.
You guys need to look at the post limit from a staff members point of view, then you will see why the limit is in place.

You made it sound like he was.
We are looking at it from a reasonable point of view. Also, some people can't be blamed for needing things explained for them because it can sometimes be unclear. Sometimes, I'm a little surprised at how little patience some staff has for newer members. I'm not doubting the frustration, trust me I'm a CNA, I understand what its like to deal with people. But c'mon, you know. Give them a break on questions like this.
I don't know what it's like to be a part of staff, but I know that its easy to keep things going smoothly with people who ask simple questions, that need simple answers. Not answers with "Oh get over it. Stop complaining, and rack up posts, its easy for everyone" when clearly, it is not.

This needs to end, the question has been answered, this is not the place to hold this conversation.
Anymore questions and you can PM me.
