View Full Version : Ghosts/Spirits/Whatever

Well, where I live, there's supposed to be many spirits, or ghosts.
My old house- I believed for the longest time that my old house was 'haunted'. Doors would open and close themselves. My tv would turn off and on without me touching it. I was getting ready to leave once and my radio turned itself on. My aunt told me- she could have been lieing- that she was sleeping and woke up and a bottle just fell off the dresser. You'd have a feeling that you were being watched constantly. Especially in the basement. I HATED going in the basement. The room I hated most was at the very bottom of the stairs...right before you went into my grandmother's section of the house. I literally ran down the stairs each time. It was frustrating because, well, I was the only one in the house who thought it was haunted. That was until we were alone. It was just me, my sister, and my cousin. We were in the basement watching tv. Reminding you, WE WERE THE ONLY ONES IN THE HOUSE. We heard someone running upstairs. And there was pounding and banging. It was so scary. So my sister and cousin went to go check it out..but since I didn't like the basement I went with them. and there was no one there. I almost started crying! Then there was another noise and we all just looked at each other then sprinted downstairs again. I hated that house..but now that I'm gone, I want to go back. I don't even know why.
My friends house- Well, I was at my friends house one night and we were just laying on her bed listening to music. She was on Facebook and I was just sorta staring at the wall. We both got into talking about ghosts. I told her about my house...she told me about hers. She was telling me about how she saw this man (who she never met) was walking up and down her stairs. I'm very skeptical when it comes to other people talking about ghosts because...well...I have issues when it comes to people lieing. anyways, she was telling me all this stuff and finally it was like...almost 4 in the morning and she fell asleep. I was still awake: staring at the wall: and then my video camera that was on her desk just flew off of it and landed next me on the floor! It was crazy!! Then, I had my proof and I believed her about the man on her steps.
So, it started out as a sort of...fear. Then went into an interest. Now, I'm constantly watching ghost shows (ex: A Haunting, Ghost Adventures, Haunted History). It's becoming..odd for me. Which is why I want to know your opinions...
Do you believe in ghosts?
and why?

I'm pretty sure I already beat this horse to death (http://www.virtualteen.org/forums/showthread.php?t=94785) so unless anyone wants to put forward legitimate evidence and explanations of such phenomena (lacking an explanation does not support the existence of any of these things) then they're welcomed to let me know. Otherwise, I've already said everything there is to say on this subject a long time ago.

The James Randi Educational Foundation will give you a million dollars if you can demonstrate the existence of any paranormal event.

Oh, guys. Just give her a break and let her read it.
Just to share my opinions because I didn't on the other thread, I don't believe in ghosts. But I do believe in the not-so-subtle effects of subtle environmental factors that can possibly lead to the "strange sightings" and encounters. Also, on what your sub-conscious records on your daily lives.

I'm not really sure what to believe.
Sure, I have seen mysterious images in the night, heard banging and scrabbling feet, had blinds open and close, TV's turned on and off, lights flicker on and off, and a sharp pin come off the wall and almost stab me, but I am not really sure whether I believe in the paranormal.
My friend was once talking on the phone (I wasn't there), and he said that when he said the word "death" that two hands slapped onto his chest knocking the wind out of him. He said he was super scared.
My sister had a friend who was in a hotel room, and she found a red-ish blood-looking stain on the carpet, then the next night a glowing figure passed through the room, right into her face and out.
Also, when the guy who was talking on the phone's mother gave birth to him in the hospital, she woke up with two black bruise-like handprints wrapped around her neck.
All of this...I am not really sure what to believe. I have friends who's parents are supersticious and also think that they can talk to ghosts and drive them away. Which totally freaks me out.
I think I'll stay home today. :D

Person 1: "Something weird's happened."
Person 2: "Do you know why?"
Person 1: "I'm not entirely sure, but..."
Person 2: "GHOSTS!!!!!!!!1!!!11!1111"
Honestly, is this what the world's gotten to nowadays?

Have you heard of the "Ghost In the machine (http://www.richardwiseman.com/resources/ghost-in-machine.pdf)(pdf)", story?
That's one of the few of the explanations of ghost sightings.
Basically, eng. Vic Tandy was sitting in his lab, minding his work, then he suddenly saw a gray blob or apparition at the side of his eye(peripheral vision), but when he tried to look straight at it, it disappeared.
Well, as a scientist and his urge for discovery, he figured out that it was a fan that was sending out low frequency in the room, the total frequency in the room came out as Hz 18.x. In this range, human cannot detect it, but can feel it(like a "ghost"), and causes disturbances.
Here is another link (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/3077192/).
In that, some scientist made some special pipe that sent out the same frequency range the one V.T experienced in a theater with people in it. Some people claimed they had strange feeling of "anxiety, extreme sorrow and chills", that's why most people are afraid of "ghost", naturally.
More explained here (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science/nature/3087674.stm).
Animals, like the tigers (http://www.newscientist.com/article/dn3680-tigers-use-infrasound-to-warn-off-rivals.html), sends out infrasound when they talk or to send a warning messages to rivals. But in the evolution of human, they developed(we don't develop, it comes out naturally) the "eerie" sense as a warning for themselves(to survive of course).
Also, the Paranormal researchers use a recorder to record sounds, and then they played it back, and when the play it back, they seem to hear human voices. Well, not really, they are just hisses. Scientists say it is a natural phenomenon occurs in humans (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apophenia). Because, human think they know what they are hearing, and not what they are actually hearing. Got it from here (http://www.skepdic.com/evp.html).
There is a video, but I don't know where it is. But it is about Electromagnetic field. It's about Electromagnetic field affecting your brain wave or something like that. When that happens, you brain will start making stuff that's not there, or give you a feeling of presence.
This is better explained by using the God helmet (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/God_helmet) - do you know why he picked the right brain? I believe you already know why.
So, I believe in Ghost as in things made by your brain and altered senses, and not supernatural spirits of a deceased body.

i think ghost are more like your concions/ like telling you things you wouldnt believe unless you heard them yourself or same with feeling things. i know there probrably not real but no harm in beliving to stimulate your imagination

You learn a new word everyday. But then again, you are someoneconfused.

Is that the only way to stimulate your imagination? And is ignorance really not harmful in any way?

Thankyou. We need more people like you.

What kind of links? Something telepathic? Is this even possible?

April 25th, 2011, 04:10 AM
yes along those lines. with being a twin myself, i have experience what i could explain as this. although this is a case often heard, occasionaly when my brother has hurt himself, i know, even if im no where near him, i will know. when we were younger, i fell off my horse and my brother screamed out in pain. be as sceptical as you wish, but thats what i believe

What kind of links? Something telepathic? Is this even possible? It is possible only in the sense if you are a believer in para-neuro-psychology.
But that sort of things happen, like father-son and twin intuitions. Like you feel someone is hurt or dead, and then you indeed find out later that someone near to you has died. I am still skeptical about this whole thing, though.

its weird, i just know. its a feeling deep inside, that tells me my brother is hurt, its impossible to explain, i just know.
i say believe, because unless you are a twin and have felt this, alot of people will say it is impossible

Sounds like an area which calls for more scientific study.

Well, I have heard many stories about people dreaming about family relatives dying and then it actually happening (and similar stuff). But then again, I've also heard a story about someone dreaming up the plot to a film they have not yet seen (talk about spoilers ), so I wasn't sure what to make of any of it.
You didn't read my previous post, I guess.
I did, but I must have got the wrong definition of "para-neuro-psychology". My bad, I guess. Although I did want her specific opinion.
