32 personal got laid off today at our school district because of budget cuts. They are only coming back if a bond election passes. We as students asked around and they said that this is happening all over the U.S. I was wondering if this is true and how affected you school is. I mean this is bearly the third year our school (not district) has been open and they just laid off all the freshman teachers, they followed that rule last hired first fired and now us freshman got no teacher and our classes are going to be topped off to like 36 students per class. We only have 40 Faculty at our school and 6 got laid off.
I was just wondering if this is happening to school around the U.S or just texas. and if it is happening to your school district how affected is your school.

14 positions between our high school and elementary school were eliminated. It might not sound like a lot, but when there's not enough teachers to begin with, it is.
There was talk about cutting JV sports, but it didn't happen. Might be combining with other schools for a couple of sports too, to save money. :/ We already got rid of Driver's Ed a couple years ago. We're also getting rid of some art classes, might be getting rid of jazz band and stuff too.

Happened to us. I think it's ridiculous one of the first things to get cut is education.

Yeah happened to us at the beginning of the year. Our classes have been cut to fourty minute classes (Some 30) and are filled to the brim with students. All the teachers that have been here who can teach more then one subject have multiple classes and some of our classrooms don't have enough chairs for the students. Coaches are teaching classes they aren't certified in blah blah blah.
They also turned off our air conditioner.

Yeah it is happening at our school too. Fucking government taking money from the schools for things not as important for our education. Fuck the fools running this country because they are silly fools. My AP chem class may be dropped the year after next. I mean WTF, they're planning to drop a AP science class......

I know for sure many teachers have gotten laid off in DFW, and I can tell the budget is getting trimmed majorly at my current school. However, they have a pretty crappy strategy to save money, cut the teacher's pay 50% so then they have to quit. One more week until I can move onto a much better school!

My school has had little to no budget cuts. In fact, somehow we found enough money to finally be able to rubberize our track.

Put it this way, the drama club students paid the 2,000 dollars in royalties for our musical this year out of our pockets, are you getting the picture?

It's happening where I live. My school district is one of the only districts in the province that is expanding, yet our staff is decreasing. We don't have enough schools, in fact, you're only able to go to the school that is in your catchment. A lot of our schools have portables, and I know my old school was at least half over capacity. In fact, my old school had a wait list of 50 people to get in the school (people that were in the catchment), and have been trying to figure out which programs they want to ship off to another school (which will eventually help overpopulate that school). Our budget is 1/3 the budget used in other areas, yet, we have three times the population in schools and rising.
