Am I incensitive?

I told a girl that I like her. She said she just wants to be single atm... And I'm okay with this.
So I was talking with some friends (the girl was there) and they were making jokes “oh... Why don't you have a girlfriend?”
to which i reply, “i dont want a girlfriend”
my crush then gives me a 'death stare'. An annoyed and bitter glance.
should i have been more careful about this? I thought we'd put it behind us.
am i a bad person?

Hey, you did nothing wrong! That's pretty weird that she tells you she wants to be single and then gets angry when you say you want to be too. Either she wanted you to chase her or she's a little attention seeking. She probably just wanted to to go after her more though. Who knows. Just see what happens, in fact, you should ask her why she did it, because you wont know if she doesnt tell you.
