So the title says it all really. I've been getting chest pains for about 3 years, I only get them let's say.. twice a month. But when I do get them they're extremely painful, it feels like someone has stuck a knife into me. I get them either side of my chest.
When I get them I find it hard to move, and if I stand up the pain intensifies and I have to sit down again. Also if I breathe in the pain intensifies.
My friend said they're down to stress but I'm not necessarily studying or in school when I get them, I could get them when I'm with my friends, on a walk or in bed. None of which are stressful.
My friends say that they never get chest pains.... are chest pains common? Because I'm pretty sure they're not a good thing from what I've heard, but I could be wrong.

It doesn't have to occur during stressful situations for it to just be due to stress, there could be subconscious worries on your mind without you realizing it. I used to get these a lot, i never actually found out what they were though. It might be worth seeing your doctor if they're causing you a fair bit of trouble, though at the moment try doing stretches and walking when you get them. I find mine eased off after that. Chest pains are something I think everyone gets at least once for one reason or another so you're not alone but like i said, if its causing you problems its best to get it checked out.

I could not totally agree more. I fyou feel as worried as you sound about this then you need to go to the doctor to get this checked out.

It doesn't really interfere with my life, so I don't think I'll go get it checked out. I googled it when I read your replies and it turns out there's loads of causes, it's not going to be serious when I've been experiencing them for 3 years.
I just freak out when it happens because we talked about it in biology a bit, and from what my friends say and from what I've picked up from people it's not something that is normal in teenage girls. Last night I got chest pains and couldn't move, and then I got a pain up my left arm. It sounds stupid but I was afraid I was going to have a heart attack.
Thanks guys, I'll get it checked out if I feel I need to, but from what you's have said I think I have a little more peace of mind. :)
