View Full Version : My friend thinks she needs Xanex

She's 16 and she thinks that she's in need of it because she gets scared easy and has "high anxiety"
I know her and it seems to me that this may just be a mental phase (like when you think your sick and then you don't feel good) idk. What do you think? Should I be worried?

As long as she were to go to the correct places for a real prescription you don't have to worry. If she obtains it illegally, then you might start worrying.

And OP, if she feels she needs it, let her, it's not something worth worrying about. I do try to follow the general tack of not medicating myself with anything synthesised if I can help it but alas, we can't promote things like cannabis use on here.

"Because it's illegal", I think.

But really, you should advise her to reach out for help about her anxiety.
self medication without any aid won't really change it.

Well my big worry is that we both used to have pill problems (both over it now) and I know that Xanex is widely used irresponsibly. But I think I might be able to trust her. I'm just worried.

This is the key to the thread. Pill problems, as you likely know, are nothing to joke about. Combine someone with addiction potential with one of the most abused and dangerous pills, Xanax, and the result can never be good. Trust me, if she wants the pills bad enough, it's not too hard for her to convince a doc that she needs them for a condition.

Even people prescribed xanax are encouraged to take it as little as possible because of the crazy withdrawal symptoms that Benzos cause. I would be very wary of your friend's intentions, but don't directly say how you're feeling as this could put her off. Just discourage her lightly from pursuing the pills and hope that she can overcome the urge.
