View Full Version : So, whoops! I did it again?

I cut for a year, then managed to stop for a month. That was pretty special for me! But, one day after school, I came home and cut. Sure, it felt like defeat, but it wasn't nearly as bad as what was to come. Last year, I had carved "Life Sux" slightly into my arm. Well, just a few days ago, I carved "Life Sux" into my leg. Now, looking back on it, and the scars it's going to leave, I feel HORRIBLY bad. I tried to talk to my guidance counselor today, but she just ignored me, the same way she did on Friday. :mad: She's only part time, so she's at school every second day. I'm one of her usual visitors, so it kind of surprised me. I'm also a teacher's pet, and happened to be hers too. She doesn't know I still cut (she thinks I stopped a month ago), and I don't know if I should tell her. She's really nice, and understanding, but I can't have my parents find out like they did last year. They told me if I ever did it again, I would be eternally grounded. My counselor told my "half" friend's parents just today, but she never told on the other 5 people I know. So, should I take a chance? I'm just afraid that she'll care a little too much.

They're required to tell your parents as far as I know. At least, that's what our school counselor said when my friends told her that I cut.

I know they are, but she didn't tell on some people. I went to a real counselor three times, and hated it. I don't want to be sent back...
I guess for this one, it's just a matter of trust or something?

I suppose so, but I really like my real therapist. Maybe you can get your parents to help you find a nice one :) Although, some of them get quite expensive.

Here, our healthcare sucks. There are two social workers working as counselors. Until I turn 16, I'm stuck with those two choices. Both are horrible.

I think you should tell her, nobody can care too much. They just simply want to help, I went to a proper councillor too and hated it. So I think your best off talking to your guidance counsellor as you trust her. Having your parents know again isn't so bad. I stopped for 40 days and when mum found out I had done it again she was just dissapointed. I don't think it's possible to ground someone for eternity. The chances are your counsellor won't even tell them, especially if she hasn't for someone else. What I do know is that you can't bottle this up, you need to tell someone.

Again I too think you should go back, talk to her. She probably didn't mean to ignore you. Tell her how your feeling. And possibly tell her you've not stopped cutting. I know when my student support teacher found out that I was still cutting I thought she would tell my mum again. However even though by law she was required too, she didn't. She knew me well and seemed to think it wouldn't benefit me. So don't be worried to tell her. However be prepared just in case she does inform your parents.

Can I slap your parents with a wet fish please? The whole idea to stop someone hurting themselves is to aid them, not punish them. That's ridiculous I already dislike your parents. Ofcourse any responsible adult in her situation she will care, and even more when it's self harm. You have 2 choices. You stop cutting instantly (I guess it will be hard) but it's a choice, OR you tell her and try persuade her not to tell anyone including your parents and just seek help through her to help you stop. But I do suggest you stop cutting, please.

Thanks, haha, I will. :)

@MattVon
Hahahahaha! You rock, js. Go ahead with the fish. :P And as for the instant quitting, I tried it once. It worked for a month, until everything spiraled out of control again. But, I'm trying again.

@moon_lit_angel
I'm well aware, but she hasn't for many people. (I've been told on by other counselors)

@Everyone
By the way, I'm at a week now without cutting. :)
