View Full Version : I'm sleeping way too much...

I don't really know why. I'm not in a depression phase currently, and I'm an insomniac. People have been getting concerned about this.
I've been technically going to bed at the same time I have the entire year so far. I usually sleep nine hours on a good day, plenty of sleep for me, I usually could never sleep any more than that. But, for some reason, lately it slipped up to sleeping until 4:00PM on my days off. Fourteen hours? I thought it was odd, but I didn't make anything of it. It just got stranger. Then, I found myself waking up at 10:00PM yesterday o.O Why is this happening? I can't think of any reason why. I'm thinking my internal clock is to blame, but I haven't done anything to really screw it up. Any ideas?

There is such a thing as over sleeping. When you are getting nine hours you could be over sleeping and your body doesn't need that much sleep. That was my first idea.
Second would be, what ahve you been eating lately? Have you been eating a lot and I mean a lot of carbs and starches. These help aide people in sleep. I ODed on mashed potatos once and I literally did wake up until 9om the next day after I went to bed that evening.

I don't eat all that much to be honest :/ Rarely have starches, I'm sure I don't eat too many carbs either.

It might be a melatonin imbalance. Blood draw would be necessary to make a decision.

That could be why, lack of energy perhaps. Have you been under more stress lately than usual?

Have you been exercising or pushing yourself in school more, problems at home? (sorry, not meaning to get personal)

I'm doing the same thing as you. Yesterday I actually slept for 15 hours, didn't wake up one time, the whole 15 hours. I've been doing that when I don't have an alarm, 12-15 hours of sleep. I'm honestly not sure why I've been sleeping so much either. I'll tell you if I figure it out, if I do :)

A little bit. It's pretty normal around here though. But I'm horrible with stress.

I'm dropping out of college, so not there, problems at home? Not really, nothing that's out in the open yet though.
I fell asleep after I got home from work yesterday, woke up as usual today. So seventeen hours this time? Ugh.

Probably because your exhausted. You could be anemic. I know when I went through something similar I had a low blood count. I'd say get some blood work done.

You might want to put your body on a schedule. Set your alarm every night so you can wake up at the same time every morning, and try to go to sleep earlier at night, also at the same time every night. It can be unhealthy to spend all day in bed, so try to get up and moving!
Also, you can try to jog in the mornings to help wake yourself up, or eat a healthy meal to provide yourself energy for the day! :)

Yeah, I've been anaemic off and on. The last time I got my blood work done, they said my iron levels were back to normal, but that was a year ago when they were as well doing thyroid work since when I was last in the hospital, I was on Abilify which screwed up my blood pressure and my thyroid for some reason. I might try taking my iron supplements again, I should probably also get some B vitamins as well, I haven't been paying attention to getting all my nutrients as usual and being a vegetarian doesn't help that.

I probably should be doing that. I just have this issue, that there's so much to do every day and not enough hours in the day to do it, so the times I wake up and go to sleep vary based on how much I have to do. I've also been lacking with taking my Remeron ever since I got back from Chicago... I only mention that because it might help to get on it again? But it does make me even more tired for a while. I guess I'll just have to rough it for a few days so I can get back on schedule.
It's starting to get hot around here (alsdjfaksdjf Atlanta, Georgia *grumble*) which makes me not want to walk as I usually do since I've got this heat intolerance. I'll have to see what nights look like as far as weather though, I might have to switch to walking in the evenings so I don't resent it.
Healthy food isn't an issue :P I'm a bit health-obsessed. I don't eat the amount I should, but I have a psychologist who also has a degree in nutrition, so she has filled my head with nonsense about omega-3 and vitamins and what foods contain what. I'm trying, as well, to be cooking more often, but like I said, there's very little time for that.

I know this many sound personally but I have a point and I would not be asking this if I did not. Is it "your time of the month". Excessive bleeding can lead to low iron levels. I would suggest a good multi-vitamin, talk to your local pharmacist, I am sure they can give you a good recomendation.
