So, the more I read over the VTHQ, it becomes more and more apparent that the same answer is given repeatedly.
For example, OP asks "How many posts must I have to gain PM permissions?"
User A: 100.
User B: You have to have one hundred posts to PM.
User C: Just use VM.
User D: You have to have 100.
User E: 100.
User F: It's a hundred posts, until then use VM.
User G: It's to stop people from camming.
User H: Wth?^

Shouldn't their be some verbal rule stopping absolutely pointless redundancies such as this? Honestly, what's the point in stating the same thing 100 times. Problem solved, move on. You missed your +1 post, get over it. ;_;

Well the only way that would work to stop this was the Mods and Admins can only answer the questions. Because if the first person to post was wrong, the person who asked the question doesn't get the right answer.
But I do agree it is pointless to post the same answer.

Likde your opinion, people just need to read the rules.

I agree. think there should be a rule on that

Well, obviously if the first answer is wrong then someone else can come along and answer it correctly. This is moreorless about hearing the same /correct/ answer repeatedly. Guess I should have clarified.
But honestly, like you said, I wouldn't give a damn if only staff could answer questions. They're qualified for it, so why not?

This has nothing to do with the rules. o_O

maybe if the question is answered and the answer is correct, the topic should be marked solved asap and locked. There should be topic attributes added to this forum; staff or OP can change the topic attribute -- [Solved] (in green)

but that won't stop redundant answers...there just need to be a staff member to quickly lock the thread? :S

I've seen the solved option and what-not before. I like them, a lot.

The staff isn't active enough to label and/or lock any 'solved' thread the moment it's solved.

VT used to have section moderators. I still don't see why they removed them to begin with, all the same, a priority moderator or two for the VTHQ and Suggestions sections couldn't be too big an issue. They'd only have two sections to read over, surely the task wouldn't be too daunting for them.

the OP should also be allowed to 'Solve' the thread as well

and we should bring back section moderators.

Why were section moderators removed?
I mean they made since. A H&A mod obviously isn't suitable to run the Art Room due to knowledge and experience, and vise versa.

But I like that too, allowing the OP to choose a "solved" option. Granted selecting "solved" automatically locks the thread.

That just lets users lock their own threads, a suggestion that has been shot down dozens and dozens of times over the years.

As long as it's only within VTHQ I see no problem with it. It does no harm to the site in any way.

VTHQ is only modded by senior staff, which makes it difficult for any of us to do that.

Not to say it's impossible to appoint a regular mod with specific abilities limited just to that section. With an additional mod it can also ensure swift and accurate answers.

I don't know much about vBulletin, but there might be permissions where in a certain forum you can allow users to lock their own threads and in that certain forum only.

Modship =/= knowing the answers to questions (or, in some cases, being able to answer them)

And I think youre asking a little much to get a normal mod for HQ.

I'm aware modship has higher standards than that.
And honestly the "make a moderator" is a branch off in the discussion. The original OP just asks for a rule to stop people from redundantly answering the same answer over and over again.

Maybe it's just me being obsessive, but I don't see why people need to say the same thing over and over again.
It's not about post count, if it were ever that to me there would be no way I would still be as low as I am after two years.

there you go. we have about 99999999999 things more important to worry about than whether or not the same answer is given twice (or more) in a thread. no offense, but where do you find it within yourself to care about stuff like this? it's sooooooo unimportant.

I'm a firm believer in correcting the minor things. Always have been.
From my accent and posture to my icons on my desktop. Minor details.

The moderators used to be less tolerant about people repeating an answer 10 times in a thread when I first joined. Guess times have changed. :|

The only thing is there's nothing in the rules against it, unless it can fit under spam. A lot of the same thing occurs in the Psych Ward as well, but there's really nothing saying they can't do that.

I agree with the ASAP idea and that it should be locked once resolved.

I disagree. I mean 9 times is overdoing it, but a couple of extras confirms the first answer.

I posted in an old thread because it's not against any rules, whoever neg-repped me. The bump limit is 2 months.
