Default Negative Rep guidelines

Ok, I've had a look through the FAQ's and I couldn't find anything about Negative rep and what can be deemed as negative rep-worthy.

This does have to do with a personal experience, but I just want to check first here...

Is the arcade just for fun, a nice happy place for stupid games with stupid responses?
Therefore, if I posted a pointless (yet imo comical) answer there is no reason for -rep if it's not hurting anyone and it's not spamming as it's only the one post?

Can someone explain guidelines for negative rep please?

Positive and Negative rep depends on the person giving you the rep that's all.

This same thing has happened to me also. It may be only rep, but people shouldn't be able to dish it out like candy and get away with it.

Spammy, yet comical. There's a difference I don't see why that should deserve neg rep.

Why is it that no one ever complains about getting positive rep for undeserved posts...
Still it's just rep if you feel it's undeserved pm an admin and if they agree it's gone if they don't agree then oh well.

No one is going to complain about positive rep because it's positive. Most people couldn't give a shit why they got it, just that they get it.

So why not feel the same about negative? It's just bars and numbers it doesn't make you more or less of a member. Focus more on what you post and less on if someone reps you for it or not.

Why not? It's completely meaningless, so why give a fuck?

It always amuses me how fixated people are on their rep, and how it's invariably the people with not all that much who spend so much time talking about it.

Why bother having it at all then?

Positive rep is good, you rep on good posts and the person gets a warm fuzzy feeling inside, but negative rep on the other hand makes you feel as if your doing something wrong, the site is out to get you, or that your just not good enough for the site. I think instead of giving members the power to virtually chastise members we should only have the power to reward each other for good posts. "

Two responses spring to mind:

1) Hell if I know.

2) So we can laugh at all the people who take it far too seriously.

Yes, but that's another story.

I made that post about a year and a half ago maybe something more recent would have been better because all you're showing is that I changed my opinion.

Still, it's written documentation on how you feel about it.

Quite honestly to all of you who worry about it: calm the fuck down about it. It's a number on the internet and isn't serious business at all. Surely there are more important things like life to be concentrating on?
