Default Adhd - Eating habits

I'm really scared / confused about the way i am eating now-a-days.
People say breakfast is the most important meal of the day yet while at school i havent had it for 7 years, They also say water is good for you and that i havent had (On its own) for over 9 years.
I don't eat lunch, either. My medication causes me not to be hungry, but i need the pills or i wont concentrate and somehow i'm still gaining weight and all i eat is dinner and sometimes i dont even eat that. Any one got advice to what i can do?

mmk, well, your diet is not a way to loose weight, because when you eat, your body will store it as fat most likely because it's being deprived so therefore panics and clings onto the food you feed it.

if, however, you ate 1500-2000 cals a day, whatever youre supposed to, your body would not feel like clinging onto it because it's getting enough which if you want to loose weight - you'll loose it better that way + exercise. but you need to eat right.

change meds if the appetite loss continues.

your choice at the end of it though.

Relax, if your eating habits and gen'l diet were that bad, you'd have major health issues. So, eventhough they say that breakfast is the most important meal of the day (b/c your body is more depleted from the energy and nutrients from dinner all those hours ago), it's not essential that you eat a morning meal. Likewise, you must be drinking enough fluid (or eating enough foods with H2O in them), otherwise you'd be seriously dehydrated, and you're not reporting that.

Since you're worried about this, though, you might try changing your dietary habits to include a morning meal, and maybe remember to drink some H2O throughout the day, if only to see what happens. The amount of food in yuou stomach might contribute to the side effects of your meds, it's worth a try.

Lastly, there are other non stim ADHD meds ('Strattera'), which might target the attentional and concentration issues, without the appetite side effects. talk with your folks about seeing the doc.

Thanks The thing is though that i have extremely odd tastes, i dont drink water on its own, as a standalone for the last 9 years, because i cant stomach it. I'm not sure what it is, but usually i go the day with a small bottle of cordial or sometimes nothing i dont know what is wrong but i think i am quite dehydrated most of the time.

I don't drink much water at all either, I drink juice, or milk, or ribena, stuff like that. Juice has water in it so drink that.

Many people get a lot of the fluids they need not so much from drinking water, but from the naturally occurring fluids in the foods they eat. So, the chances, you're getting enough fluid from solid sources (I know that must sound odd!).

If you're not thirsty during the day, the chances are you're not dehydrated. It's never a bad idea to have a glass of water, however, esp. if you're concerned about this.

Hmm, perhaps. I need to find something that is as good as water, to drink .

i dont see how i'm not because all i drink/eat during that day now is a small glass of cordial in the morning (with meds, that keeps be going for about 11-12 hours) then dinner and thats all with some snacks after dinner.

Well, don't try to diagnose yourself. Go to a doctor if you think something is wrong.

Silkonia, many medications do affect your diet and/or weight. Breakfast is not something you'll die if you don't have it. It's recommended because it's your first main input of energy, however, you can still be perfectly fine without it. As for water, you can put flavouring in it, have some sort of juice, pop, etc... . Once again, you don't need to drink water by itself, you can if you want, however, you won't suffer immensely if you don't.

For the dehydration, you'd generally notice if you were that desperate for water. Since you don't seem to be, I don't think it's likely you're dehydrated.

Overall, I think it's simply the side-effects of the medications that you're experiencing along with quite a bit of worrying over your well-being. I wouldn't call it excessive right now but it is creeping up on the rather high side.
