well get some more testing but if you have it, it is good for them to recognize it so then you can learn to see what can be done to at least help you deal with it better. it is not your fault you have it but being aware of it can help you for the better

It would probably be best to share it with them.

Until you have a proper diagnosis you cannot be sure but at that point maybe you can ask for help and advice about telling your family. Or you can let them know you are going to have more tests etc and what that is for.

Really, a lot of this is up to you on whether you associate yourself with the diagnosis or not. People are usually born aspies and getting a diagnosis is much more descriptive than anything else, you don't really say that you "acquired" or are "sick with" asperger's. It's a pointer for the medical personnel.

Even better, the answer is in how close to your family you are. Surely being an aspie led to some peculiarities of yours that your family might have managed - if they did, their treatment regarding you shouldn't be any different, as they are already used to some of your quirks; on the other hand neglecting parents might use this as a way to shame and blame you for being different.

I'd say there's no harm in telling if they asked about the appointment(s) assuming you live with them, and/or if your relationship with them is strong enough that a simple "label" is going to be of zero difference, if not some insight on bonding even more. If you're becoming or are distant with your parents, I wouldn't say it's a necessity to tell.

Personally, I've known about being an aspie since I was very young (5 or 6 y.o.) and so have my parents, but in the majority of the time I lived with them the diagnosis itself, nor the name, was never central in any conversation. It's more about who I am and how I can improve myself.

Hope I could help ^^

I heard that Aspergers wasn't an diagnosis anymore, now they just put you on the autistic spectrum... But I would suggest getting an actual test first.

(bit of an old post, naughty me didn't see.)

This isn't a bad thing. A lot of people have Aspergers including myself, I wasn't officially diagnosed untill I was 8 but we knew before then.

Continue your life as normal, after all it's not like this is a new thing; you are born with it. You do not need to share it unless you want to; 1/7 people don't even know they have it and live life as they always have.

Your actions inspire others to do the same, whether they are the right actions is up to you. Do as you see and see as you do.

A few months ago, I found out I have it. I've really thought nothing about it. I also have Anxiety, ADHD, and I used to have severe depression
