Angry How come half the time?

How come like half the time people get abuse and disipline mixed up. There is a big difference. I got spanked as a kid. I get backhanded every now and then.

What u think?

People were raised to believe certain things. I believe in punishing children by spanking. But there is a fine line. Parents sometimes get it confused. Slapping your child who is under the age of 13 is not right. Hitting your children with coat hangers (I had an ex boyfriend whose mother did this) is not right.

Discipline can be abuse.
Like when my parents removed the door from my room for many months as a form of punishment.

A lot of parents take discipline to the extreme. For example, spanking without leaving any marks other than a little redness is not abuse. However, beating your child or spanking to the point of bruising is.

Lots of people can intermix the two, but there is a difference. Discipline, a child does something wrong and they need to be corrected. Abuse, its leaving marks and the victim is terrified for there life.

I think all kind of physical punisment of children is wrong. There are so many other effective ways.

i dont believe in physical punishment it doesnt make you want to be around your parents any more. i only got spanked once and that is because my parents dont believe spanking is the answer but my dad likes to threaten the belt on us even tho everyone knows he never will but yea there is a fine line between abuse and disipline

Well just spanking as disipline or smacking your child for being bad or whatever isn't abuse. It's when the parents or adult take it past that. We're talking leaving bruises, whipping with a belt, or beating a kid past the point where you're just beating them up. Disipline shows a child they were wrong. Abuse is bullying.
