Default anxiety

so my therapist (who I've only gotten to see once) said that I have anxiety problems, but she didn't prescribe anything, does tihs mean I just need to deal with them or what?

I don't feel like my anxiety is too bad, but I think it's what makes a lot of problems in my life worse, and I'd really like to be able to deal with it

try breathing methods until you can get something.

try this.

1. breathe in through your nose. (make sure it's a deep breathe, completely fill your lungs)
2. hold it for 5 seconds.
3. exhale through mouth.
4. repeat 1-3, 10 times.

if you are still overly anxious, continue.

i have tourette syndrome, an anxiety disorder. i take meds for it, but i also use this method because meds don't always do the job. it works great. i tend to block out nose as much as possible and close my eyes also. try it once you read this, i bet it help you calm down

Deal with your anxiety. My therapist told me that if you don't deal with it, it'll just get worse, even if it takes years to get worse..

What my therapist suggested for me to do is when you feel anxious, do not stop yourself doing whatever you needed to do, even if it made you feel anxious. Don't think about how much it scares you, don't focus on the physical symptoms the anxiety is giving you. Ignore the fear and worry in your head, and just do what you were doing. Don't rush it, and then run off from it, as that will just teach your body that if you do it as quickly as possible, then it'll all be over and you are still basically running from it, potentially making your anxiety worse.

I apologise if that does not make sense, I am overly-exhausted.

Honestly, you might want to consider seeing a neurologist/psychiatrist about getting on an anti-anxiety medication. I'm on one and it's done wonders for me.

If you ever need to talk, you can PM me. I can't promise I'll solve your problem but I'll do my best to help.

Some therapists don't like giving their patients drugs. It's the same deal with me. I have chronic anxiety (which is a part of my bi-polar disorder) and borderline personality disorder but have only taken meds once. It was zoloft and it sucked. Feeling anxious is a horrible feeling, but it's better to deal with it constructively (artistically in my case) than to feel unlike yourself. I didn't like feeling ok at times when I would have usually felt different. It was uncomfortable for me. Good luck.

I'll help you. At least I'll try as hard as I can. All good intentions for all of you Play nice and respect each other.

med jumping is terrible. so if you can manage off meds, that's the best thing to do. i'm on depakote and lexapro for tourettes and autism. they work great

you should take some time each day for relaxation. i've started using this, and i think it's really helpful. just deep breath, and let you thoughts flow away, similar to a stream. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w3S9S...&feature=feedf you may want to use headphones to tune out all other background sounds.

Well, first, therapist aren't allowed to prescribe medications but they can suggest you see a psychiatrist who deals with medicine. Maybe you can try medication, I have and it has made a big difference in my depression and anxiety. But since you only saw, your therapist one time, you're probably not going to notice a big change. Just keep going to your therapist, ask her if you might need medication after a few sessions and just try the breathing exercises that the others recommended and try not to worry. Just keep your mind away from your anxiety. Don't let your anxiety take over you. I really agree with what Comatose said.

Yeah, like a lot of people said, breathing and trying to relax as much as you can helps a lot, but it doesn't really work during a panic attack (for me at least). If you have those, just talking through them with someone that's reassuring can help a great deal.

I've always felt like I have had high stress-anxiety...but what will help when you are having an anxiety attack is, of course, breathing in through your nose slowly, and out through your mouth. The band Enigma helps, it is really relaxing.
I also find eating crackers helps.

Anxiety is a general term for several disorders that cause nervousness, fear, apprehension, and worrying. These disorders affect how we feel and behave, and they can manifest real physical symptoms. Mild anxiety is vague and unsettling, while severe anxiety can be extremely debilitating, having a serious impact on daily life.
