Exclamation Autism is not a bloody Disease

Well,

im sick and tired of peeps thinking autism is a bloody Disease, like at my school the other kids take mick out of me (there idiots btw) because i have autism, they say it is a Disease and i should be locked up lol, well that made me lath, but back on topic! if any of you think that autism is a Disease it is not, its more of a brain process problem in some cases, such as me i have autism i cannot socialise good and i couldn't talk till i was about 5, thats just a little bit of what problems i have, but yes

if you think it is a Disease, then you are mistaken

To be honest, I never thought of it to be a disease. More of a..... I don't know how to say it. But I don't consider it a disease.

No, it isn't a disease in that sense, that those guys were talking about. You will hear it called a disease however, because it does fit the definition. But I like to call this type of stuff disorders. It's not a disease, just specific parts of your brain function a bit differently, a disorder.

Heyya..

I am a young carer for my mum (who has an incurable disease) and my three siblings who all have Autism! It's impossible for someone like me to say I understand the annoyance from exactly your point of view but I do sort of understand!
It is a disability but its not a disease! None of my friends of my sister or brother (the elder one is away at an autistic college) my brother are aware of the Autism which probably makes it really difficult for them because nobody understands them and I am constantly overhearing my sister being dissed!
Life is difficult with autism and when people don't understand makes it worse, so maybe speak with your family or a teacher you can trust about these issues. Talking often helps but not always! I'm sure you know best..

Hope I helped !

I think of it as a condition. I mean I have aspergers. But its never directly affected me as a disease would.

I've known a lot of people with aspergers and honestly I can't tell the difference. I guess there are things that they do that are "different" but why do we need a label for every tiny difference? I'm sure if they looked hard enough most of us could be diagnosed with some form of disorder. Labelling them just makes things worse for most people.

Although, I do think that some people with more severe forms of autism may sometimes need help, and giving them a diagnosis can make sure they get the help they need.

For my work experience I worked with severly autistic children, I have never seen it as a disease. People that do are just ignorant. Continue to ignore those idiots, they don't know anything and are just mean.

a disease means it can be contagious, I have a type of high functioning autism called NVLD and its genetic, so its not a disease but a genetic development. Who ever thinks its a disease needs to get their head checked.

Hmm.. I'm going to repeat what I said in the ADD/ADHD forum though.

Quote:
Disease.
Definition: a disordered or incorrectly functioning organ, part, structure, or system of the body resulting from the effect of genetic or developmental errors, infection, poisons, nutritional deficiency or imbalance, toxicity, or unfavorable environmental factors.
Technically, it could be considered a disease. But like I said, disease doesn't seem to describe it correctly. A disorder will always be what I'll call mental illnesses.

I totally agree autism isn't a disease it's a mental health condition . Having autism means u see the world in a different light 2 so called normal people because wot is normal ? Some people just need 2 understand that it is a spectrum condition for example one person might not like loud nosies but the other might. Also because its so complex their's varing ablities/types of autism. I have high funtioning autism and I'm proud 2 head my head up high and face the world !

Diseases aren't necessarily contagious. Now viruses, are. But it doesn't have to be contagious to be considered a disease.
