Question microperforate hymen

i'm pretty sure that i have a microperforate hymen. do i need to have surgery? if so, how much is it? (if this affects anything, i've never had sex)

also, if anyone has had surgery for a microperforate hymen, could you please relate your experience?

Sophia, what makes you believe that you have this condition? What are your symptoms? Have you had a proper diagnosis and a thorough internal exam conducted by a gynecologist?

I don't have this issue but one of my cousins did have, and I am quite familiar with it having discussed this at length with her. She had a simple procedure done in the gynecologists office that took 30 minutes or so and was fine afterward. There's nothing to be afraid of should you need this done.

bear in mind i said i'm pretty sure; i haven't had a proper diagnosis yet. at the moment i'm doing some research online and am debating whether this is something i need to bring up with my parents, or if i can just leave it alone.

as for symptoms: it's physically impossible for me to insert a tampon, and i've had a look with a mirror "down there" - it all looks like the diagrams i've seen (very tiny opening, apparently stretchy tissue i.e. the hymen).

Generally self diagnosis is frowned upon, but in your case it's really easy to see inside if you open yourself up and use a mirror. Since you are concerned, and particularly since you can't insert a tampon, then I think you need to bring this up to your parents immediately and have mom make you an appointment with her gynecologist to confirm your thinking, or make a different diagnosis. If you are correct, it's easily fixed and they might take care of it while you are there. My cousin told me once they had given her a couple of shots up inside to numb her (the same stuff they use at the dentist) she didn't feel anything at all during the procedure and she was relieved she had it done.

I had a small hymen opening and at 18 had surgery to correct it. It was easy and relatively painless. I had the surgery so that I could use tampons. I didn't get my period until I was 16 and they were very irregular. I play sports and work out a lot and I absolutely hated pads!

I have a microperforate hymen and no sex won't fix it. Sexual intercourse would not be possible with this condition.
