Default Going to church

I guess this is a vent and not a question. I am 15 and donít want to get up every Sunday and go to church. My mom says that I need to go. I donít want to fight about it, but I am not really into it. Am I wrong for feeling this way?

You may be called wrong for feelings against a religion, but ultimately you're the one who decides whether you are "wrong" or not, because you're the one who decides what you believe or don't believe, so I would say no, your are not wrong for not being into the religion

My mom and I used to go to church, but then we got lazy and now we stay home on Sundays. I don't like going to church, but I do believe in my religion and I pray regularly, so, you shouldn't feel bad about it.

I'm not sure, I have to go to church every Sunday as well. Guess I have never really thought about it in that way before.

I go when I feel the urge to go to church. It’s not necessary and if your heart isn’t in it then all that “worship” is a lie anyway....hence invalid before God.

I just see it as a hangout with other people. Something about society that forces face to face communication.

I go to a catholic high school and participate in whatever religious activities take place there but its more out of obligation than faith. Once we turn 16, me and my siblings are not forced into going to church. It's our decision.

I find forcing someone to do something they dont want to only leads to resentment and lack of interest.

To answer your question, no, you arent wrong for how you feel because those are your feelings and you own them. The next question is, what do you do about it from here?

No. It is such a shame that your (or your parents) religion has not provided a positive experience for you. In my opinion, the main point of participating in religious practices is to provide comfort, a sense of belonging, and answer the big questions. It doesn't sound like your church has done any of those things.

We go as a family every Sunday, and I have always liked it and will continue to attend with them. But if you don't sincerely want to be there, then it isn't going to do you, or your family, any good to make you participate when you aren't interested. I believe you can still be a good person and never attend church, it's more about your personal values and behavior.

I don't mind going to church. It's nice. But no one should be forced to go there, as it's certainly not for everyone.

@Cheergurl2002 Being forced into things nearly always makes them less enjoyable... it's unfortunate your mom is doing that to you. You didn't clarify if you'd rather not go because you don't wish to follow a religion or you just don't want to attend church at all/at the time your mom wants you to. If you wish to go, maybe service is also held at a different time? I know people who go to church on Sunday and Wednesday evenings.

My friend says you don't have to go to church to be a good person and make some sort of decent contribution to society. If you privately pray at home then as long as you feel happy inside that's all that matters x

I completely agree with Lucy. However, I can see you're in a tricky situation and I know my parents would be exactly the same and while I am at home and live in their house I kinda have to go with what they say. However, I quite enjoy church to be honest.

You have the right not to believe in the same things as your parents. Nothing wrong with that.
If there is something wrong, that would be you not telling your mum what you think and let her force you to go

Lol the only times my parents go to church is for weddings or funerals. Probably as much to do with the nice looking building as much as anything else.
