They are used for back up water carriers and to water proof small things. Like a guy.
It will be 8 days with no cell phones, just a 2 way radio.

It’s a little different from camping but can I ask for product advice for waste management solutions other than “just use a bucket” for like emergency kits?

Do you know of any solutions?

The context is more massive fire or earthquake destroyed my home/community how would I survive.

I got other areas covered but not waste management.

Shovel and a bag of lime. Dig a hole, put something to sit on over hole, do what you have to do, and a scoop of the lime(NOT THE FRUIT) and add some dirt. Repeat.

Can always crap in a zip lock bag and seal it
I think they do that in really environmentally sensitive areas

Thanks.

Whelp it seems there is need for innovation in this part of emergency kits and products.

I knew of those solutions I was just hoping there would be some newer strategies since the early 1800’s for this part of life.

@Alloverkelly where do you get the lime product that isn’t the fruit?

I believe the lime product she's referring to is Calcium hydroxide. Also known as hydrated lime, calcium hydrate, caustic lime or slaked lime, this product can be found at a local feed store or garden supply store.

OMG I'm back after a week camping by a lake with my donkey and sunk the same. No shower, dig your own potty's, Fucking bugs everywhere, I had to keep a list of all the animals I saw. Used the gun 3 times 2 rabbits and a big pigeon, I think. I took my Dads advice and had loose pants and no underwear(Thank God for baby wipes). After 2 days the Bra was also in the pack. It is so spooky at first. But if you by a lake you get used to all the sounds. I did so much fishing. I now hate fish for a while. I only opened 1 MRE pack and the was just for the cheese packet.
It was a old Paper company lake and they had us about 1\2 mile apart. We were told if anyone blew the air horn 3 times the 2 nearest would go and see what was wrong. Only 1 of the boys did it he was gone after 3 days.
My pants I wore most of the time they are in the trash as well as the 3 shirts I wore most of the time. You know your bad when you can smell your self coming. I made a nice bed and the tent was the best. A few times it rained but I was good. I made a nice lean-to for my best friend out there. We had a few bears come around and She gave a huge snort and stomped her feet. Now watch the male moose eat was so cool. They were chest deep and just got the stuff from the bottom. At night I would stay up till about 10 and watch what came around us. My trash pits were clean every morning.
Well I got to take another shower and was my hair more. Cleaning with baby wipes and in a lake is OK but a hot Shower was SSSSSSSOOOOO good

How come you didn’t wash yourself / do your laundry in the lake?

Sounds amazing though, you’d have learned so much about yourself!

I did clean up using the lake but it just did not feel right. As the bra I will still wear mine, I kind of need it

It sounds like an amazing experience, and you did really well!!

Bathing in a lake or stream is an acquired thing, you have to get used to it. Often there's no other choice while camping. I don't really mind it provided the water isn't too cold.
