Talking Dad gave me the keys to the Mustang!!!!!!

Had my 16th birthday this past week, and was I ever surprised when my dad handed me the keys to the red 2012 Mustang convertible he'd got for my big sis Megan when she turned 16!!!!!!

She's away at college and while she's not thrilled she understands why dad gave it to me. Gotta wait a few more days to take my driving test and get my license, then watch out!!!!!! While I'm prolly more of a pickup truck kind of girl since I love mudding and off the road stuff, I'll have lots of fun with the Mustang.

I won't be allowed to drive it to school more than a few times for the rest of this school year, and we'll see about the fall. But I can use it after school, on weekends, and best of all, during the summer!!!!!! One of the first things I plan to do is go out on the highway and open it up.

I'm so happy for you, I hope you'll have a lot of fun with your new ride.

How fast have you taken it?
Yeah it was a gift from my GrandDad.
The most I opened up was bout 80 on a straight
country road. I don't speed or going to take a chance
cause I had a good buddy die in a wreck the first of the
year. He was going fast and fishtailed on a stretch of ice.

Well Dad let me take it out (with him) yesterday to see "what I could do" and I think he was pleased. We were joking around before leaving, and he gave me a really hard swat on the butt and told me I needed to behave while driving or I could just give the keys back to him and walk. He told me he already knew what the car could do, but had to know what I could do with it. My sisters Jamie and Megan came along in the back seat. I think both of them needed clean underwear after the ride........even though this was Megan's car, she never drove hard or fast and was more into showing off driving around our small town with the top down with a few friends. She didn't realize what it was capable of, but I showed her. I'm sure she had no idea that I could drive like that.

I've never driven fast on the highway before but I found out that a Mustang GT 5.0 is a LOT faster than I was even expecting it to be. Love the 6-speed!!!!!! We had a clear stretch ahead of us and he told me to take it up to 100 for a minute but that I was NEVER to do that again. I've never gone that fast before, but I've had our mudding truck up to 50 or 60 in the mud quite a few times. Of course that's way different from driving on public roads as it's on private property.

My driving test is scheduled for Friday and I'll be taking it in the Mustang. And of course obeying the speed limits

I do remember your friend dying a couple months ago. You do honor to his memory by not driving as he did.
Yes I do for a lot of reasons. He had the accident on a
Friday night and I usually have gone out with him on
Friday nights but being it was after the new year I was
busy doing other things. He was not speeding or on any
substance but it was a freak accident. It still bothers me
and Im hesitant driving at night.

The Mustang is a Cool car.

This morning at breakfast dad showed me the insurance bill for the Mustang........

He expects me to pay it, as part of the responsibility of having a car. I figured all along I'd have to pay for gas, and maybe for any repairs that might come up. But I can see his point and it's realistic of my parents to have me pay my own car insurance. I never realized how much it was though. $1600 a year!!!!!! That's what happens with an expensive, fast car and a first time 16 year old driver. Between what I earn from baby sitting and my band though, I can pay for it.

All of a sudden I feel a little more grown up. And I realize why dad got the car for Megan when she turned 16, it wasn't only because she's a spoiled brat which was what I always thought, instead it was mostly to teach her responsibility. She had to go out and get a job as soon as she got the car and now I know why........

Exactly. I see this as a not so subtle push in that direction, but that's good at our age. Learning responsibility is important. I can do this.

Well, after getting to the point where I could actually legally drive by myself without having an adult in the car like you have to on a learner's license, I found it was a very welcome improvement! Takes some getting used to though.

I don't drive like a crazy person but I have figured out how to have a lot of fun

Totally love shifting gears and just driving around going nowhere in particular with the top down. It's a unique new freedom that comes with getting older, like Kara pointed out before it's another step toward becoming an adult eventually.

And yes, I'm paying for the insurance out of my earnings from baby sitting and playing/singing music. $150 a month!!!!!!
