Default should i spend 1000 on a watch for my dad for Christmas?

There is a watch he said he likes,it costs 1000. he hasn't asked me to buy it but i feel like he may have been hinting. I have some money saved up and i also have a job and saving some of the wages. i can just about manage it and i think he would be happy with it. Would you spend 1000 on a parent? i feel like its too much but then i want to make him happy too so i dunno. also i have no idea what else to get him anyway.

In my opinion, that seems pretty expensive to me. However, I don't think it would be wrong or necessarily bad, especially if it's for your dad. There's certainly nothing wrong with spending so much money on a parent. So I guess it really comes down to whether you and your family tend to exchange gifts that are on the more expensive side or not. You also have to be realistic as to your finances and what you can afford or not. If you do end up buying it, do it because you love him and are grateful for everything he's done for you in your life, rather than because you can't think of something else to get him instead. That said, you shouldn't feel bad if you can't afford it at this point in time either, I'm sure your dad would be happy with whatever you decide to get him. There's no shame if realistically speaking your finances really make it difficult for you to get your dad such an expensive gift. Good luck, whatever you end up deciding!

It depends on your budget and what the spending limit normally is. You should also consider if the cost will outshine others gifts, which will make them sad

I think that's a bad idea, and way too much money at your age to be spending on a gift for anyone.

I think that's an insane price to pay for just a watch. There are lots of nice watches for a lot more reasonable prices.

Wtf.
I really can't imagine any parent wanting their kid to spend that money on them.
Don't want to sound harsh but i reckon if they want/expect it then they don't deserve it.

Is he the only person you are buying for? If so, and you can afford it...maybe. But if you have other people to shop for, no...

I wish I had that much money to spend, but even if I did I don’t think my parents would want me spending the much money on them

Im not clumsy its just the floor hates me, the tables and chairs are bullies and the wall gets in the way

That's about $1000 in US money I think???
No I don't think u should spend that much
money. If he likes jewelry get him some
sort of sterling silver ring. Something that
is a bit more reasonable in watches.

I would not unless I were rich. There is no reason for you to offer him such an expensive gift. I do not think this is appropriate. Think about the other people who will not get such a gift.
You could offer him a much less expensive watch.

If you can afford 1000. watch for your dad, then why not give him than expensive gilt.

First, If I had 1000,I would spend them for something much more useful than a watch
Then, if you offer him a 1000 gift now, what will you offer him next year? I guess you wont settle for a regular 20 or 30 present

No, the only time I’ve dropped that kind of money, was on appliances for the whole family.

And this watch is more expensive than what I got, which was an air purifier for the house because of health reasons for all of us.

i asked my dad if he wanted the watch he said no and he wants me to keep my savings.i went ahead and bought it anyway. he found out about it early when i came clean and told him i'd bought it because i was worried i'd done the wrong thing and didn't want to wait until Christmas day worrying about it. i kept the receipt so he took it back for a refund and grounded me for 2 weeks for ignoring his wishes. so yes it was a bad idea and didn't work out too well. i meant well and i thought he'd be pleased but i was an idiot as usual

I dont think you're an idiot, because all you wanted was to please him and it was nothing but good intention.
Let's just say it was a little too much
