Default Re: UN General Assembly votes in favor of nullifying US decision

Imo, this vote is like many others of the UN, just a statement that will not attract much attention in the world.

Nor will it change the situation in the region. This would require much more concrete statements.

For example, the demand on Israel to give enough land to Palestine, and to recognize it as an independent, self-sufficient state. And in return, Palestine has to renounce its claims to Jerusalem and whatever else it is, officially and forever. And the US should be called upon to support this.

Such a vote would attract a great deal of attention. I already can hear the indignant shouts from Israel, Palestine and the US.

The game of being politically correct. Israel won't anyway give up their claim on Jerusalam anytime soon

Still, by doing the Jerusalem recognition, the US alienated many Muslim regional partners and allies, especially Turkey which was slipping from US influence since the failed coup almost two years ago.

In truth, I've always favoured the idea of declaring Jerusalem as an independent city state that can be run by a council of equal Palestinians and Israelis. That way, no state is preferred or favoured by anyone in the world and diffuses one of the most contentious points of any negotiation. However, as time has gone on and Israel has pushed further and further into the West Bank, it's clear that, whilst a two state solution is the most democratic it's also becoming more and more unlikely since Palestine cannot form an independent state from the small patches of land that does not already have an unofficial Israeli settlement right in the middle.
