Default I'm slowby but surely overcoming an addition to food

Hi all,

Just want to share a little story i've had in overcoming my eating disorder.

I've been a long time lurker of this forum, finally made an account to chat with everyone

So basically, i've always been the "chubby kid" pretty much my whole life - Got bullied, had crippling social anxiety, depression.. everything. It got to the point where I was considering killing myself.

The ONLY thing that made me happy was FOOD

After talking to my doctor, he said that I couldn't be put on a higher dose of fluoxetine because of my weight and possibly worse side effects (my grades in school were bad bc i just couldn't concentrate). He advised i check out a thing called EOOD "Exercise out of depression".
I already had an idea it helped but was anxious as hell about actually attending a gym due to my social awkwardness.

I got hooked up with a few free gym sessions from a friends guest passes so i figured i'd give it a shot as i was desparate as hell...

went to my first gym session and just did nothing but the treadmill for a 1.5hour uphill jog..

Went home, for the first time in as long as i could remember, I DIDN'T feel like raiding the fridge.. I actually felt.. good? Like, I had a sense of euphoria from all the endorphins.. the same endorphins i'd get from eating!

I went back for another two sessions to see if it wasn't a fluke and had the exact same results.. then it clicked.. I wasn't addicted to food, I was addicted to the feel-good endorphins I'd get from eating .

After a little while of hitting the gym, the weight started rapidly coming off me because i wasn't binge eating anymore and i was exercising, which i'd never normally do.

I still have a LONG way to go, but the first steps are the hardest.. everything after that is a lot easier.

Very happy that you're doing better, I've also had problems with my weight for most of my life and am on a better track now. Wishing you the absolutely best in being a happier, healthier person.

Congrats and welcome to VT
That entire thinking is actually true for many ways of thinking. And can help people overcome manynforms of addiction, once they realize what you have. Its a matter of tapping that resource
