Default How can I reduce drag and increase speed when lap swimming?

Im new to lap swimming. Im a 17 year old guy and have a fairly athletic body and Im in good shape (not to sound self centered). Ive taken up lap swimming three times a week now as part of working out at the gym and at my local aquatics center. But every time I swim lately, I seem to get slowed down. My board shorts seem to drag a lot in the water. I dont know if it is those or something wrong with me. But I just cant seem to swim as fast as Id like to. What can I do to help improve my speed in the water when lap swimming?

Like most sports, shave of you want to get faster! Without any hair on you there will be a lot less drag

Yeah like above said, shave your body. Also, don’t wear board shorts, wear something tighter like a speedo or those brief type things.

You need to wear a speedo / swim briefs or jammers. Save the board shorts for the beach or recreational swimming or a water park. But speedos are way better for lap swimming than jammers in my opinion.

JUST LET YOUR WORRIES SWIM AWAY.

Although I am not a competitive swimmer, that is why most who are wear speedos/tight swimwear .

Yeah you wear speedo or jammers to help drag. Maybe check your kicking and your breathing to help your speed.

Shave, wear a swimcap, don't wear a shirt (wear a rashguard if you really want to) and wear tight swim trunks (the european ones)
