Default School Strike for Climate Change

I know there have been these in quite a few countries. Uks was on Friday.
Just wondering...
1. Have you been on one?
2. Do you know anyone who has?
3. If yes to either how did the school /parents react?

My answers.
No.
No.
I don't know if anyone did from my school but we were told in assembly that if anyone went it would be unauthorised absence and show up on our records as truancy. The HOY didn't say how awful the idea or anything and said it was an important issue but not the best way to go about it. He also said he'd find it easier to believe peopel were genuine about the cause if they did it on a Saturday or holiday rather than a Friday before half term.

No, never happened, and I've never heard of this myself. Either it's not a thing where I live, or I've been oblivious. xD

Give me pizza covered in pineapple. Give me burgers loaded with pickles. Give me a steak burned to rubber and drowned in ketchup. I'll eat it all and sing hallelujah. But I'm begging you. Please don't serve me tuna. I'm a human being, not a cat.

It is a thing honest. A few thousand kids deomstrated in London on friday and in other p[laces too.
I think it was started by someone from Sweden and spread.

I see. Well I guess it's only a matter before it becomes a thing here as well.

Not a thing here in the US that i know of. Here there have been walkouts to protest the gun violence, though.

So long and thanks for all the fish!

Nothing in my school. No strike and no participants. We do care about the environment, but not that much. School days are school days for teaching, not for strikes. If someone wants to demonstrate, he can do it on week ends.

I agree with what the person said about questioning the sincerity of their concern based on when they chose to show it. And I wonder how many of those thousands of kids really know what it's about, and how many of them have empty lives and are just looking for something to grab onto.

What does a 15 year old girl know about climate change? Having her speak at a conference is just a publicity stunt.

I think public demonstrations can be good. But often people who engage in that are more into the demonstration than committed to the cause.

I didn't go cos I have A Levels to prep for and that's way more important. However, since I attend a 6th form where attendence is no longer legally required, the principal set out an email saying it was fine as long as we got authorisation from parents so plenty of my friends went

It started with a swedish 15 yo girl (or maybe norwegian I'm not sure) getting on strike every Friday

Social networks and media did the rest, and it kind of propagated to the rest of the country and to some other European countries

In Poland we have such a strike, but it's not organised in schools. Students just don't go to school on the one day and go to do a strike somewhere in the city centre. Neither me nor my friends take a part in it. Personally I consider strikes waste of time and I can easily find 100+ more profitable and better things I could do instead of striking.

I get thsi. It might not be effective or even very sensible but people who support it say there cant be anything better to do than saving the planet.

I heard of it from the news. But, as far as I know, at my school we will have classes as usual with no one participating in any strike.
