Unhappy My Mother

Hi! (This might be a long read... sorry)

I recently got my licence and now I can drive on my own. However, my mum, even when the car isnt being used, wont let me drive it. For example, she was at a conference last week and took the train to that conference and back. The car was sitting at home the whole time, and I could have driven to school and back with it (it would save me so much time and be loads more convenient, because I need to change busses to get home). This also happens with my out of school activities, where she would rather drive me around instead of me driving myself and back from those activities.

Ive asked her why on several occasions, to get a no just no. I like to think Im pretty safe, I dont speed etc... What can I do? Has it happened to you? Its really frustrating me!

Thank you

Did she teach u how to drive? Maybe she thinks
u r still not ready. I would not pester her on y she
wont let u use the car but explain just how u wrote
it here that u have to transfer to two busses and it
would b a lot easier. Ask her if she would like u to
drive her anywhere. I would give her time to get
the feeling that u can now do things on ur own.

I think your mother is very worried.
Are you her only child?
You do not even have to be responsible for a serious accident yourself.
But I can understand them too.

Parents worry about us all the time. It's what they do, and moms are the worst. Getting our license and driving on our own is probably the worst worry they will ever have…. I know mine will when I get mine. Been told teens are the worst drivers out there bc we are inexperienced. Be patient with her and try talking to her some more and you may have to give it some time. It will be okay.

Sorry to hear about your situation... I guess I was blessed from moment I got my permit my mom usually let me drive... after I got my license it changed to most of the time we went somewhere... bugging your mom to let you use the car isn't the answer. offering to drive when she needs to go somewhere might work... don't be pushy.

Thanks for all the replies...

Yes I am the only child, and my dad taught me how to drive.

I have tried explaining the situation to her, again, to get a “no”...

maybe try seeing if she will let you drive with her in the car, then she can see if you really are safe. It might change her mind.

I will try that. Hopefully there isn’t an argument over it.

This is probably the most harmless way to approach it.

I'm only 15 but my Dad has it where I'm learning to drive on dirt roads on a friend of his farm. For parking I have to park between paper cones.
I will tell you this, if for some reason you take the car with out your Mom's OK you will be in deep DoDo. Wait and see what happens. My Dad gave me a car to drive when I'm older. But it is parts and I have to work on it.

Let your Mom learn to trust you more and more. Also I have never seen a teen guy that did not "Just Drive" the car. Most will show off.
