Default Foreign Films

I'm a film major in college and have seen a lot of foreign films, but most people I've met outside of college have never seen a foreign movie. If you have seen any, what's your favorite? NOTE: dubbed anime doesn't really count, unfortunately

Mine would be Das Leben der Anderen (The Lives of Others). It takes place in post-WWII East Germany, where the communist government sent secret police to spy on "suspicious" individuals in their own homes. It's really well-written, and the cinematography is absolutely phenomenal. It's rated R, but I highly suggest people watching it!

I think my favorite "foreign" film is an old one called "Trafic", starring, written and directed by Jacques Tati, a hilarious comedy about a trip from Paris to Amsterdam.

I fuckin LOVE old kung fu movies! If those count as foreign films I think besides that I’ve seen a couple of french films? But none that’s really worth remembering. One was a cool WW2 spy movie, I don’t remember the name tho

i've seen Les Choristes. Definitely do recommend. Pretty sure it's an 18 as some of the phrases are super sexual.

Wow that was a really dumb comment on my part And I'm actually not that big a fan of CT,HD for some reason. The concept is cool, but I wasn't a big fan of how it was shot.

I forgot to mention "A Better Tomorrow", a Hong Kong drama from 1980-something, with a fair amount of action. Good stuff.

What's your definition of "foreign films"?
"Films that are not in English" or "films made outside the US" or something else?

For A Lost Soldier, Vito and The Others, The Flamingo Kid, and Pixote -- we had to watch them in a class in school and I thought they were pretty good.

Lol every local film here is considered a foreign film while every major blockbuster is a foreign film...

To answer you question in the way I think you are intended... the malls here usually hold a Italian, French German, Japanese etc film fest. And our school sometimes asks us to go see one and review for extra credit so I watch a lot.. most are cool some are very specific to their culture so I don't get a lot of references.

I kill the threads I post in and if you PM I probably never stop replying *imagine witty signature here*

I've seen two and they're both great. El Laberinto del Fauno (Pan's Labyrinth) (Del Torro, 2006) and Cidade de Deus (City of God) (Meirelles, 2002).

This looks good! I read some trivia that they waited until just after she turned 18 so she could film the explicit scenes.
