Default Identical twins.....

So question of the day: We all know humans can have identical twins naturally, but do other animals have them as well?

And given many animals depend on scent, do identical twins smell the same or just look the same? And does that apply to human identical twin?

Tough to tell, I can't tell most animals of the same breed and color apart, whether they're related or not, although I'm sure they have different tiny spots, dots and whatnot that make them different, but which you have to study them closely to see.

And I doubt that twins, identical or not, smell the same. A dog would know the difference.

Michael Corleone in "The Godfather - Part III" is pretty much Tony Montana who got older, less angry, sobered up and lost the accent.

I suppose animas do use sent to tell the difference you always see dogs sniffing each otherís bottoms, we have a set of identical twins in our class and I am not going to try that to tell them apart, but I can tell them apart it takes a while though to be able to tell the difference

Considering that identical twins arise from a single embryo splitting into two by chance, I don't see any reason why identical twins can't occur in other species. Of course, environmental factors may affect the ability to differentiate between the two, including epigenetics.

They do. As do conjoined twins, which happen in the same scenario as identical twins, just the split is incomplete. If you search "two headed snake" in google, there are videos of such snakes. Scientists still don't know why when this split happens, you get two complete people (or animals) rather than two parts

Now I’m curious to see if our pets can tell human identities of identical twins apart by scent, or if they get confused too.

I have an identical twin, and we've been around a lot of pets, they do have preferences or at least don't get confused and such between us from what I've noticed

Yes, animals can get identical twins. This is also what happens to fertilized double yolker eggs (identical twin chicks).

And identical twins in humans can have different eye and hair color. For animals, such as mice, it is very common to have baby mice with different hair color.

I'm sorry this thread does not tolerate dolphinist statements such as that

I wonder why in genetic terms, it is very common for dogs, pigs, and mice to have many babies at the same time while humans usually have one, sometimes 2, and quite rarely 3, and very rarely 4 or more.
