Question starting running

i've been starting to run on the little countryside road i live on. i'm not doing it with a proper aim, just trying to build up stamina. has anybody any tips for a beginner runner?

I run a bit although swimming is my main sport. I just also do it to build a bit of stamina and I'd recommend to take it slow and build up from there. And get a friend to run with you if you can!

Pace yourself. Don't hit the ground running (no pun intended there) but instead start off at a walk/jog before going into a full-blown run. Break it up into intervals; run for a set amount of minutes or a set distance you can handle, then walk, then resume running, and so on... it will increase your stamina as you can increase these intervals once they're not too tiring. Also, dont forget to stretch beforehand. Good luck!

Ya, definitely stretch the quads, hamstrings and calves. Drink plenty of water before and after, and wear a decent pair of running shoes.

If you're starting completely from scratch, maybe do warm up and cool down walks for a couple of minutes before and after your runs so you get less achy and stretch as well.

Running is now one of my main hobbies (or at least it is if school doesn't up my time) and when I first started running at around 10 or 11 the guy training me said breathing is key. Drink a good amount water at least a few minutes before you stretch that way when you start running you won't feel weird with all that liquid inside you. Also, from my experience tight clothing can restrict your breathing and also might make your armpits hurt after a while so either wear a loose shirt or just go shirtless like me

Start out with stretching exercises, bring a bottle of water with you or have stops for water along the way, and don't overdo yourself. Just push a little further every week or so. I love to run and will often go out in the middle of the night and run through our town for an hour or two. It must help, because when we were timed at school mine had improved significantly.

Good running shoes is essential (get them at a real running store where they look at your form, not at a mall). At first you can just run every other day (you don't have to run daily, if you do run daily don't go all-out every day, give your body time to recover). But don't take more than 1-2 days off in a row either, you need to be consistent if you want to see progress. If you can afford it, buy a smart watch with a GPS (or use a running app on your phone) to keep track of your distance and speed. Challenge to go a bit farther and a bit faster each week. Running takes patience, but over time, if you are consistent and hard working you will see huge improvement.

Also after running for a few weeks, and getting stronger and used to running, try running hills. Nothing builds improved, faster and stronger running than running hills! And try not to walk. Ever. But if you have to walk, do it, walking abit is better than no run at all.
