Antidepressants?
Have you ever been on one? I have,(zoloft) and I just wanted to know if it effected others it effected me. My dreams wend crazy, more real... I was hungry and easily gained weight. I was restless at night (hard to sleep) I was hyper. And, when I got lazy and stopped for 2 weeks, when I started again,, I had massive headachs for 3 days! I'm no longer on meds, but did it effect you that way? |

I've never heard of the hyperness as a side effect. I've been on anti-depressants for the past seven years, and they've all effected me in one way or the other.

Seeing as how Zoloft is a SSRI, all of the side-effects you mentioned are known to occur. From one of the textbooks in pharmacology, it says 15-20% of patients on SSRIs experience anxiety and restlessness. Other patients may also experience nervousness, headaches, etc... . Weight gain is usually viewed as a long-term side-effect. All the side-effects you listed are common ones and of course there are plenty of other side-effects.

Antidepressants are medicines that treat depression. Your doctor can prescribe them for you. They can improve your mood, sleep, appetite and concentration. It may take several weeks for them to help. There are several types of antidepressants. You and your doctor may have to try several before finding what works best for you.

-- I've been on some antidepressant or another for four years and some change. I've taken Wellbutrin (worked, but not enough), Prozac (worked, but I developed a tolerance over time and eventually it didn't do the job as well anymore), and Effexor (been on this one for the past year and so far no complaints). It sounds like Zoloft just wasn't the one for you, but whether you eventually try something else or not is up to you. A little advice, though: I don't know how long you were on them, but you should know that unless you experience a sudden increase in depression or suicidal thoughts, you should always give new drugs a good two or three weeks for your body to acclimate before you decide they're not worth it. Side-effects can often show up for the first few weeks and then go away once your body gets used to it. That's why you wait. Also, stopping cold turkey for two weeks and then suddenly starting again is most likely what caused your headaches--not just the drug itself. That's why you're never supposed to just stop taking your pills, it can cause serious problems. Once you go on an antidepressant, you commit to it. You can't just "get lazy" and not take them, or things like headaches are bound to happen in most cases.
