Default the T in LGBT

transgender people have a gender identity or gender expression that differs from their assigned sex.

lesbian, gay, and bi people have a romantic attraction and sexual attraction to the same sex or gender.

why is transgender (T) part of the LGBT acronym if its unrelated to sexual/romantic attraction like the other three?

Maybe it's because all trans people will be gay/bi at some point in their lives. If you switch genders, but your sexual/romantic preferences stay the same, then it would make sense.

Political correctness or the desire to be inclusive of all people, depending on your view.

I have heard that the new acronym is supposed to be LGBTQIA to include intersex and asexual people.

Yup. I think this is the answer. It sorta groups all minorities together. I also agree the acronym will likely grow.

At this point why even bother with an acronym? Why not find one word to encompass all relevant groups of people? Even so, I think trans issues, gay issues, and asexual issues are all pretty different, they just happen to occasionally intertwine, so I myself have asked the same question as OP.

I don't even know how intersex got thrown in there. Intersex people are typically still either biologically male or female, the exception being those born with ambiguous chromosomes. It's not necessarily related to gender or sexuality, it's a birth defect. I would think that intersex issues have more in common with those of other chromosome-related birth defects than LGBT junk.

Being transgender still deals with sexuality because you are the right sex in your mind and emotions but you are in the wrong sexed body. They want to make their bodies to match their proper sexuality.

I am gay and happy with that.
